South Jersey Non-Public A

(10) St. Augustine 56, (7) Donovan Catholic 51

Noah Plenn scored 15 points and converted six straight free-throw attempts down the stretch of the fourth quarter to help the Hermits hold off the Griffins.

Junior Ryan Jacobs scored a game-high 17 points to lead Donovan Catholic and senior Jack Malek added 15, including three three-pointers in the fourth quarter that helped the Griffins stay close.

St. Augustine built three separate double-digit leads and led by as many as 12 at 39-27 early in the fourth quarter. Donovan Catholic cut each deficit to at most four points and twice got within three, including at 47-44 with under two minutes left.

St. Augustine advances to play No. 2 seed and defending Non-Public A champion Union Catholic Monday in the sectional quarterfinals.

(5) Paul VI 73, (12) St. John Vianney 42

Senior Mark Augello scored a game-high 19 points for St. John Vianney, but the Eagles ran away with a win over the Lancers to earn a sectional quarterfinal game on Monday.

(6) Red Bank Catholic 71, (11) Notre Dame 62

Junior Ryan Prior scored 17 of his game-high 25 points in the second half, including a dagger three-pointer with 30 seconds left that helped the Caseys complete a major second-half comeback that eliminated the Irish.

Prior hit five of his seven three-pointers in the second half and his last three put RBC up by five with 30 seconds to go. The Caseys then finished off the win at the free-throw line.

RBC trailed Notre Dame, 40-26, at halftime after the Irish canned eight of their 11 three-pointers in the first half. The Caseys erased the entire deficit in the third quarter by outscoring Notre Dame, 27-11, with Prior scored 11 points and senior Colin Cavanagh adding eight during the run.

Cavanaugh finished with 15 points, senior Tyler Burnham poured in 13, senior Pasquale Sabino netted nine and senior Luke Iasparro pitched in eight to round out the scoring for the Caseys starting five.

RBC advances to face No. 3 Rutgers Prep in Monday's sectional quarterfinal in Somerset.

 

South Jersey Non-Public B

(8) Wildwood Catholic 65, (9) Ranney 50

Freshman Brody Mauro scored 11 points, but the Panthers could not keep up with the Crusaders in Wildwood.

Senior Drew Buck added 10 points, six rebounds and five assists in the final game of his outstanding four-year varsity career at Ranney, while sophomore Shaan Nayar pitched in 10 points, three assists and four steals in the loss.
