The Braves plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh and scored the winning run on an error to pull out the win and deny the Colonials a come-from-behind victory.

Manalapan jumped out to a 7-0 lead, but Freehold Boro chipped away and  eventually took the lead with five runs in the top of the seventh. Junior Mark Costanzo hit a three-run home run in the third inning and tied the game with an RBI single in the seventh - his fifth RBI of the game. The Colonial drew even on a two-run blast over the centerfield fence by junior catcher Phil Marcantonio.

Junior Rob Gargano started the game for Manalapan on the mound and gave himself a big lead when he hit a grand slam in the bottom of the second inning off Freehold Boro starter Dan Chiusano to give the Braves a 6-0 lead. Gargano also tied the game in the bottom of the seventh when he re-entered into the No. 2 spot in the batting order and hit a ground ball into the hole between shortstop and third base with the bases loaded and two out. Freehold shortstop Chris Cassandra stopped the ball but his throw to second base skipped into right field and allowed two runs to score to tie the game.

Junior shortstop Dan DeBlasio then followed with a ground ball that Cassandra could not handle, allowing junior Giovanni Ciaccio to score the winning run from third.

 

Neptune 6, Marlboro 3

Senior Dylan Taliaferro went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and two runs scored and sophomore Ron Cole was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored to back senior left-hander Justin Tucker in a Scarlet Fliers (2-5, 2-3) win over the Mustangs (4-4, 1-3).

Tucker allowed two unearned runs on seven hits over six innings with no walks and six strikeouts on 105 pitches to pick up his first win of the season. Sophomore Aedan Martin went 2-for-4 with a run scored to aide the Neptune cause.

Senior Will Trochiano was 2-for-4 with a double and senior Gene Napolitano finished 2-for-2 with a walk. Senior Noah Hutter took the loss and threw 57 pitches.

 

Freehold Twp. 7, Colts Neck 1

Senior Mike Pirrotta struck out nine in five three-hit innings and the Patriots (4-3, 3-2) took down the Cougars (3-4, 2-3). Pirrotta allowed one earned run on 85 pitches and also singled and scored a run on offense.

Senior Zack Pericone and sophomore Cristian Corcione each chipped in a two-run single for Freehold Township, while junior Nick Lodispoto was 2-for-3 with a walk. Pericone also scored a run and stole a base.

Junior Joe Kohm tripled and scored Colts Neck's lone run on an RBI double by classmate Shaun Scully. Senior Jon Weitzman took the loss and threw 59 pitches.

 

 

Class A Central

Red Bank 12, Shore 2 (5 Innings)

Senior Will Grant went 4-for-4 with four RBI and the Bucs (4-3, 2-3) posted 13 hits in a rout of the Blue Devils (2-5, 2-3). Grant also scored three runs.

Matt Santos and Jack Povey each went 2-for-3, Danny Wagner was 2-for-4 and Jonah Rosen, Jack Stamer and Kevin Laughlin each drove in two runs for Red Bank.

Senior Josh Horowitz pitched four shutout innings to earn the win, allowing four hits and no walks on 60 pitches while striking out four.

Austin Cannon and Ryan Jones each went 1-for-2 with a run scored for Shore. Mike Deusch took the loss and threw 109 pitches.

Senior Jake Fox broke a 3-3 tie with an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth and the Jaguars edged the Mustangs. Senior Connor Takacs was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to add another Jackson Memorial run. The Jaguars tied the game at three in the third inning, when junior Tom Pellone came through with a two-out RBI single.

 

Brick 17, Southern 4

Senior Matt Stadelberger and sophomore Cole Groschel each drove in three runs and senior John Zurawski picked up his third win on the mound as the Green Dragons (6-1, 3-0) hammered the Rams (3-4, 2-4) for their sixth straight win.

Stadelberger was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and Groschel finished 3-for-5. Senior Jerry Hutchison also went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Zurawski, meanwhile, allowed three earned runs on three hits with three walks and nine strikeouts over five innings.

Starter T.J. Scuderi went 3-for-4 a the plate to help his own cause and the Indians continued their unbeaten start to the season by beating the Golden Eagles. Scuderi pitched 5 2/3 innings of relief to pick up his third win and with three hits in his first three at-bats, he hit safely in eight consecutive at-bats dating back to Monday's win over Toms River North.

Senior Justin Fall was 2-for-3 with four RBI and Matt Shiffer and Dylan Danelson added two hits apiece for Toms River South.

Senior Tommy Sheehan roped a bases-clearing, three-run double in the top of the fifth inning and battled through five innings on the mound to lead the Warriors to a win over the Caseys.

 

No. 10 Middletown South 12, No. 9 Ocean 6

Senior Ryan Ruziecki clouted a first-inning home run and sophomore Dylan Walling doubled and drove in three runs to help the Eagles (5-3, 3-3) outlast the Spartans (4-4, 2-3). Seniors John Martin and Jeremy Joyce also drove in two runs apiece, with Martin collecting two doubles in the game.

Freshman Bobby Pirie earned the win in relief, the first of his varsity career.

Junior John Nista struck out 11 and went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Garnet Gulls (3-2, 3-1) to a five-inning win over the Titans (1-6, 1-4). Nista allowed one run on five hits and one walk on 94 pitches to earn the win and added a double and two RBI in his perfect day at the plate.

Senior Kevin Donnelly went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs and three RBI, freshman Phil Antoniotti was 2-for-3 with with two runs and three RBI, and junior Josh Yates was 1-for-3 with three RBI. Yates, Antoniotti, Donnelly and Nista hit in the top four spots in the batting order and combined to go 9-for-13 with a double, home run, five runs scored and 11 RBI.

Liam Meyer doubled and Dylan Ryan went 2-for-2 for Keansburg.

Point Boro 5, Barnegat 4 (11 Innings)

Senior Tom Paul capped a two-out rally in the bottom of the 11th inning with a game-winning RBI single as the Panthers (3-6, 1-5) walked off with a win over the Bengals (2-5, 2-4).

The 11th-inning rally began with a two-out infield single by senior Pat Feehan, who moved to second on a throwing error on the play. Senior John Duggan then came through with a clean single to left field to plate Feehan with the tying run and moved to second on the throw. Paul then shot a grounder through the middle to chase home the winning run.

Feehan was 3-for-6 for the game with two runs scored and an RBI for Point Boro.

Sophomore Tyler Suydam gave Barnegat a 4-3 lead in the top of the inning with a two-out RBI single. Suydam finished the game 2-for-4.

Junior Justin Diefenbach allowed one earned run on two hits and one walk with seven strikeouts on 96 pitches in taking the no-decision for Barnegat.

Freshman Nick Guzzi pitched around 11 hits to make it through eight innings for Point Boro before senior Josiah Gliddon came on to pitch the final three innings and earn the win. Guzzi threw 107 pitches.

Luke Becker was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Aaron McLaughlin went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, and Diefenbach, Brian Finucan and losing pitcher Lukas Torres all went 2-for-5 in the loss.
