Freehold Boro 6, Long Branch 1

Senior Dominic Nonnenmacher struck out 10 without a walk and allowed one unearned run on six hits over six innings to pitch the Colonials past the Green Wave on opening day.

Seniors Luke Crivelli and Mike Lombardi each went 2-for-3, with Crivelli roping a double, scoring two runs and driving one in, and Lombardi driving in two.

Junior Kyle Wenrich pitched a perfect seventh with two strikeouts to close out the Freehold win.

Senior Evan Yerman went 3 2/3 innings for Long Branch in taking the loss. He allowed four unearned runs on two hits and four walks while striking out four before turning the ball over to senior Ivan Navarro for the final 2 1/3.

No. 5 CBA 2, No. 10 Howell 1

Senior shortstop Tommy DiTullio blasted a game-winning, walk-off home run with two out in the bottom of the seventh to give the Colts a thrilling win over the Rebels on opening day.

Winning pitcher Braedin Hunt started the rally by drawing a one-out walk and moving to second on a wild pitch. After a fly out by senior Connor Baksh, DiTullio took a ball from Howell senior left-hander Bryan Bernard and on a 1-0 pitch, unloaded for a two-run home run to left field.

Bernard went the distance for Howell, giving up two earned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out seven in 6 2/3 innings.

Howell took the lead in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by senior Kyle Brex to chase home junior Tommy Talbot, who singled and stole second to set up the scoring opportunity.

Hunt pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief of starter Joe Escandon and retired all five batters he faced, one via strikeout. Escandon allowed one earned run on three hits and two walks while striking out four in 5 1/3 innings.

Middletown South 13, Marlboro 3 (6 Innings)

Starting pitcher Danny Minze went 3-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and three RBI to aid his cause and the Eagles rolled to a win over the Mustangs to open the season.

Sophomore Jack Shea pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win after Minze gave up three earned runs on three hits and four walks over the first 2 1/3. Minze struck out three while Shea allowed two hits and a walk during his outing.

Juniors Chris Lotito and Anthony Esposito each went 2-for-4 with two RBI, with Esposito also roping a double.

Junior Jack Sheridan was 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI, senior Robby Zega tripled and scored a run and junior Chris O'Connor was 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI for Middletown South.

Junior Ramon Fontanes went 1-for-3 with a three-run triple in the third to account for Marlboro's only runs.

 

Class A Central

Raritan 4, St. Rose 1

Junior D.J. Dekis hit a go-ahead two-run double in Raritan's three-run seventh and the Rockets edged the Purple Roses to bounce back from Monday's opening-day loss to Manchester.

Senior Jake Tennant pitched a four-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks on 90 pitches for the complete-game win and helped his cause by going 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored. Senior Tyler Bruno also doubled and scored a run for Raritan.

Senior Jeff DeFazio was 1-for-3 with a run scored and senior Frank Bellezza went 2-for-3 to lead the St. Rose offense. Senior Evan Peeke allowed one run over six innings in taking the no-decision. Sophomore Jack Crawford pitched the seventh for St. Rose.

Matawan 14, Red Bank 5

Seniors Jackson Hercek, Chris Gendi and winning pitcher Danny Hirujo each drove in three runs and the Huskies all 14 of their runs in the final three innings to pick up an opening-day win over the Bucs.

Hercek went 4-for-5 and ripped two doubles, Hirujo was 2-for-5 with one double and Gendi went 3-for-5.

Christian Rivera and Ben Palumbo each went 2-for-3, with Rivera adding a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Junior Jay Kalieta also went 1-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI in the win.

Hirujo allowed two earned tuns on five hits and four walks while striking out two and throwing 89 pitches. Sophomore Tim Egan pitched the final three innings, struck out four and earned the save while throwing 51 pitches.

Junior Max Stamer went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored to lead Red Bank at the plate. Junior Jack McCabe was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and losing pitcher Jack Povey went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Andrew Glauber also went 2-for-3 and senior Colin Chatto doubled and scored a run in the loss.

Povey allowed five earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five before exiting with one out in the top of the fifth. The Villanova commit cruised through the first four innings before encountering trouble in Matawan's five-run fifth.
