The Southern Regional baseball team entered Thursday on a five-game winning streak and took down the last three of those opponents in one-run, extra-inning games.

Toms River South, however, didn't let the game get to extra innings and put an end to Southern's surge in the Shore Conference Class A South.

T.J. Scuderi launced a three-run home run and Tom Campo belted a two-run bomb as the No. 1 Indians cooled off the Rams, snapping Southern's five-game win streak. Scuderi also pitched the final 1 1/3 to close out a win for sophomore starter Matt Hartshorn, who improved to 2-0 while allowing one earned run in 5 1/3 innings of work and 77 pitches.

Scuderi and Campo each added a sacrifice fly, giving Scuderi four RBI and Campo three. Matt Shiffer was also 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

Marcos Matias was 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI to lead the Southern offense. Nolan Watson also went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored for the Rams.

Andrew Luongo look the loss, throwing 65 pitches in four innings.
