Class A North

No. 3 CBA 5, No. 4 Freehold Boro 1

The Colts (4-0, 3-0) scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning to back junior starter Nick Hohenstein and held on to beat the Colonials (3-2, 2-2) for the second time in eight days to remain unbeaten to open the season.

Hohenstein highlighted the top of the seventh with a two-run single that extended CBA's lead to 4-1. The Colts grabbed the lead on a sacrifice fly by freshman Mason Wolf after junior Joe Duffy singled home the tying run and sophomore shortstop Joe DiTullio singled to load the bases.

Junior Tom Rodgers began the inning with a double and walked with the bases loaded to cap the scoring.

Hohenstein allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out five over six innings and 98 pitches. The junior right-hander also defeated Freehold Boro, 1-0, with a complete-game shutout on April 3.

Senior left-hander Tm Holdorf worked into the seventh inning and also gave Freehold a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth.

Senior Pat Barret ripped a go-ahead two-run double to center field in the top of the seventh inning and left-hander Zach Fillmore finished off the complete game as the Rams knocked off the Mariners.

Senior Mike Nyisztor gave Toms River North a quick 1-0 lead when he hit the first pitch of the bottom of the first over the left-field wall for a leadoff home run.

Point Beach 10, Henry Hudson 0 (5 Innings)

Three Point Beach pitchers combined on a two-hitter and the Garnet Gulls (1-2, 1-1) put the game away with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to beat the Admirals (1-1, 0-1).

Junior Josh Yates was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, junior John Nista was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI, and Ryan Craig finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored. Roddy Rupp also pitched in a two-run single and junior Kenny MacPherson was 1-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.

Senior left-hander Kevin Donnelly struck out three without allowing a hit or a walk in two innings before giving way to junior Chris Russo, who allowed a hit and a walk with one strikeout in two scoreless innings. Freshman Phil Antoniotti struck out a pair and surrendered a hit in a scoreless fifth inning.

No. 8 St. Rose 13, Keansburg 0 (5 Innings)

Junior right-hander Nick Schmidt threw St. Rose's second no-hitter in its first three games and the Purple Roses (3-0, 2-0) coasted to a win over the Titans (0-2, 0-1). Schmidt's no-hitter was of the five-inning variety and he issued just one walk while striking out a pair. Junior Sam Sestito no-hit Point Beach in the team's opener on Wednesday and both Schmidt and Sestito accomplished the feat while making their first varsity starts.

Junior Will Gannon led the offense with a 4-for-4 day at the plate that included a double, two runs scored and two RBI. Junior Riley Maypother was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI, while Brody Maypother was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Senior Brendan Hueth was also 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI for St. Rose.

Coming off a no-hitter in his first start of the season, sophomore Noah Dean took a no-hitter into the fifth inning Monday and improved to 2-0 while the Wildcats topped the Lions. Junior shortstop Keith Apostolos broke up the no-hit bid with a single to lead off the bottom of the fifth and scored on a wild pitch to pull Lacey within 5-2.

First baseman Sean O'Rourke hit a two-run single to cap a four-run first inning for Pinelands and sophomore shortstop Joey Ventresca drove in his second run with an RBI single in the second inning to give Pinelands and early 5-0 lead.

Dean walked four batters in the third inning to force in a run and walked seven in the game, but also struck out 10.

Freshman James Johns went 2-for-3 and scored the winning run in the top of the fifth inning as the Hawks (3-1, 3-0) edged the Panthers (1-4, 0-3). Junior Patrick Carney struck out seven over four innings and 80 pitches of scoreless relief to earn the win after Johns gave up two runs in three innings.

Senior Joe Felipe was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored and senior Matt Migliaccio was 1-for-3 with the game-tying RBI single in the top of the fourth.

Senior Tom Paul went 2-for-4 at the plate and struck out 10 while allowing two earned runs on six hits and two walks in a complete-game effort. Patrick Feehan also went 2-for-4 and John Duggan doubled and drove in a run in the loss.

Senior Christian Padilla came through with a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh and the Bengals walked off with their first win of the season over the Griffins. Senior Evan Albanese led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and scored the tying run on an RBI triple by junior Justin Diefenbach, who scored on Padilla's single.

Sophomore Tyler Suydam went the distance on 84 pitches to earn the win and also helped his cause with a double at the plate and a run scored on an RBI single by Diefenbach.

Middletown South 9, Colts Neck 8 (10 Innings)

Junior Joe Sprake came through with a two-run single in the bottom of the 10th inning to score the tying and winning runs and the Eagles (2-1) walked off with a win over the Cougars (2-2) to pull out a hard-fought win. Sprake finished the game 4-for-6 with two runs scored and two RBI, while sophomore Robby Zega was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI for Middletown South.

Junior Jack Tirrell doubled and drew three walks to lead the Colts Neck offense.

Marlboro 2, Canisius 1 (8 Innings)

Junior Matt Levito belted a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to break a 1-1 tie and the Mustangs (3-2) squeezed past Canisius to climb back above .500. Levito, Matt LaPoff and Vin Ferrigno all went 2-for-3, with Levito scoring two runs and LaPoff doubling and driving one in.

Will Kramer earned the win with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief after sophomote Ian Li lasted 5 2/3 innings in his first varsity start. Li allowed just one hit, walked four and struck out five while allowing on unearned run.

Senior Jeremy Bello pitched a complete game on 90 pitches and the Mustangs picked up a win in Florida. Bello allowed one earned run on seven hits while walking one and striking out five.
