Class A North

No. 1 CBA 7, Freehold Boro 1

Nick Hohenstein, John Dudek and Jack Harnisch each homered and Blaise Venancio struck out 11 over five three-hit innings to earn the win as the Colts (8-1, 6-1) coasted past the Colonials (4-4, 3-4).

Hohenstein belted a solo shot in the first inning for his third home run in the last three games. With CBA leading 3-1, Dudek cracked a solo blast in the fourth to make it 4-1 and later that same inning, Harnisch connected on a three-run homer to right field to cap the scoring.

Phil Marcantonio slammed an RBI double in the top of the fourth to plate Freehold Boro's lone run.

 

Howell 25, Neptune 21

The Rebels outlasted the Scarlet Fliers in a game that saw the two A North teams combine for 46 runs, 38 hits, 14 extra-base hits and nine home runs, with each team posting a 12-run inning.

Howell's seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning marked the last of the scoring - a rally that included a two-run home run by Dylan Beyer and a go-ahead three-run home run by Brandon Matt that made the score 24-21.

Matt also managed to throw 2 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win in his first ever varsity appearance on the mound.

Beyer (2-for-5) and Matt (3-for-4) each drove in four runs, while Eddie Morales went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double and four RBI for the Rebels. Nick Ruszczyk and Ryan Bearse each went 4-for-6 with a home run and three RBI to round out the home-run-hitters for Howell.

Joe Colucci also went 3-for-4 with three RBI and Kyle Brex was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and four runs scored.

One of Howell's six home runs came during its 12-run bottom of the third inning, which was a two-run homer by Ruszczyk.

On the other end, Neptune scored 12 runs in the top of the fifth to go up 21-18 and all 12 runs crossed the plate with two out in the inning. Ron Cole capped the inning with a tie-breaking three-run blast, part of a 3-for-4 game with five runs for the University of Kentucky commit.

Devon Furges also homered a drove in five runs, Jett Tinik was 2-for-4 with his first varsity home run and three RBI, Kyle Bailey was 2-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI, Rocco Richard went 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Matt Bonderant finished 3-for-6 with three runs scored.

Teddy Sharkey hit the first of his two home runs to tie the game in the the top of the fifth and winning pitcher Grant Shulman followed with a tie-breaking two-run blast to right field in the same inning to ignite a comeback win for the Crimson Knights over the Falcons.

Shulman ripped a two-run triple to open the scoring in the top of the first inning and after his three-run shot tied the game at 5-5 in the fifth, Sharkey extended Wall's lead to 8-5 with a solo bomb to center field.

Monmouth plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh to chase Shulman and had the bases loaded with a chance to win the game on a hit, but Jason Horowitz induced a game-ending fly out to Sharkey in center.

Ricky Voss and Liam Kile led Monmouth's two major rallies. Voss doubled in a run and Kile followed with a two-run triple in Monmouth's four-run first inning. Both also added an RBI single apiece in the seventh inning.

Middletown North 18, No. 10 Middletown South 15

Tyler Ras went 2-for-4 and highlighted Middletown North's 11-run fourth inning with a three-run triple as the Lions (2-8, 1-7) woke up their bats to win a slugfest vs. the crosstown rival Eagles (6-3, 4-3).

Brian Quinn was also 2-for-3 with three RBI, including an RBI single in the big fourth inning.

Middletown North scored nine of the 11 runs with two out and the nine runs were all unearned. The Lions worked 11 walks against Middletown South pitching and eight of the 11 walks came around to score.

Michael Adamson was 1-for-2 with a double, three runs and two RBI,  starting pitcher Brendan Doherty went 2-for-5 with two runs and Kernan Alba and Michael Roditis each went 1-for-5 with two RBI for Middletown North, with Alba adding a double.

Sean Gardiner (64 pitches) worked the final four innings and allowed two earned runs to pick up the win.

Aurelio Licata was a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, five runs scored and two RBI to lead Middeltown South. Rob Zega was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI and Joe Sprake went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI for the Eagles.
