Class A South

Jackson Memorial 9, Brick Memorial 5

Senior Zach Crotchfelt hit a two-run single to cap a decisive five-run fourth inning for Jackson Memorial, as the Jaguars (17-7, 11-3) topped the Mustangs (12-12, 7-7) to clinch the outright Class A South championship for the third straight season.

Junior catcher Aidan O'Donnell finished 1-for-3 with three RBI, one of which came in the fourth-inning rally that flipped a 3-2 Brick Memorial lead into a 7-3 Jackson Memorial lead -- one the Jaguars would not relinquish.

Crotchfelt and senior J.R. Osmond each went 1-for-2, with Osmond scoring three runs and Crotchfelt knocking in two. Junior Matt Koblos was 2-for-4 with a run scored and senior Chris Cartnick and Charlie Meglio each went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Junior Dean Daddio earned the win by pitching 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, during which he allowed two hits and a walk while striking out six.

Junior Joey Nolan went 1-for-3 with three RBI, including a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh for Brick Memorial. Senior Anthony Martino was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while juniors Ryan Mulcahey (one RBI) and Brady Leach (two runs) each went 1-for-3 in the loss.

 

Class B North

Neptune 2, Freehold Boro 0

Senior Ryan Cole pitched a three-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts and one walk while also going 2-for-4 with a double at the plate to lead the Scarlet Fliers (9-10-1, 6-7-1) to a win over the Colonials (3-15, 2-12) in last game of Class B North divisional play.

Junior Quincy Esannason broke a scoreless tie in the top of the seventh with a two-run single. Senior Nick Terefenko pitched into the seventh and took the hard-luck loss for Freehold Boro.

 

Class B Central

Mater Dei Prep 3, Henry Hudson 1

Sophomore Gavin Sansone pitched a one-hitter with 17 strikeouts and went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored at the plate to carry the Seraphs (8-10, 6-6) to a win over the Admirals (6-8, 5-7).

 

Class B South

Jackson Liberty 15, Lakewood 0 (Game 1)

Jackson Liberty 13, Lakewood 0 (Game 2)

Sophomore Brett Benecke homered in each leg of the double-header and senior Chris Sasso, junior Connor Yurgel and senior Jack Kanis each homered as well as the Lions (10-9, 9-5) finished off their Class B South schedule with a sweep of the Piners (0-14, 0-14).

 

Non-Division

Middletown North 10, Manchester 0 (6 Innings)

Senior Colin Dowlen pitched a one-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts and one walk in six innings to help the Lions (12-10) top the Hawks (7-12-1).

Senior Andrew Lombardi went 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBI to lead the offense, while junior Ryan Frontera was 3-for-4 with two runs scored for Middletown North.

Wall 8, Toms River North 2

Senior Matt Johnson pitched six scoreless innings and senior Nick Colbert went 3-for-3 with a double that jumpstarted a six-run fifth inning that propelled the Crimson Knights (17-6) to a win over the Mariners (8-14).

Colbert scored all three times he reached base, including on a two-run double by senior Jackson Coan that extended Wall's lead to 3-0 in the fifth. Senior Gabe Cavazzoni then tripled home the fourth Wall run, senior Jerry Winchester singled one home and junior Colin MacDermant singled home two more to round out the rally.

Senior Nick Lovarco got Wall on the board with an RBI double in the third.

Johnson allowed three hits and a walk while striking out six on 81 pitches during his six scoreless frames.

Seniors Ryan Baker and Dom Saldida each went 1-for-3 for Toms River North, with Baker doubling and Saldida driving in a run.

Junior catcher Ryan Kopf went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI, including the tie-breaking, two-run single in the bottom of the sixth in a Patriots (13-10) win over the Blue Devils (9-11).

Senior Giacomo Calamita went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, an RBI and two stolen bases and senior Jayme Montanez also went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases for Freehold Township.

Senior Sean Keegan picked up the win on the mound with two innings of scoreless relief and also went 1-for-2 with a run scored at the plate.

Junior Rylan Fegan went 2-for-2 with a triple and a run scored, while sophomore Joe Santi drove in a run with a single and senior Rich Barton was 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored to lead Shore.

Red Bank 4, Central 3

Gus and Hank Dal Pra each went 2-for-4 with a double and the Bucs (9-16) rode a three-run first inning and a solid combined pitching outing from Nick Gandolfo and Greyson Sandoz to a road win over the Golden Eagles (17-9).

Jack Hyman led the game off with a double and scored on an RBI double by Gus Dal Pra. Ryan Robinson added an RBI single in the first and Hank Dal Pra doubled and scored what proved to be the winning run in the top of the fifth.

Alex Heinrich went 2-for-2 with an RBI double, Cam Leiter was 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the seventh and Billy Sottilaire was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Central.

Toms River South 6, St. Rose 0

Senior Aidan Folsom pitched a four-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts and two walks to lead the Indians (11-9) to a win over the Purple Roses (6-16). Senior Gavin Migliori led the lineup by going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.

Point Beach 14, Toms River East 8

Freshman Bryan Matuschat went 2-for-5 with a triple and an RBI and senior Phil Trebour was 2-for-3 with an RBI as the Garnet Gulls (16-8) took advantage of six Raiders (10-11) errors to pick up a win and complete a sweep of the three Toms River public school teams (Toms River East, Toms River North and Toms River South).

Sophomore Nate Clayton was 2-for-4 with an RBI and seniors Andrew Banick and Hunter Roselli each doubled for Point Beach.

Jake Verdon and Matt Ferrara each went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI to lead Toms River East.

 

Non-Conference

Perth Amboy Tech 9, Keyport 2

Senior Anthony Longo went 1-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Red Raiders (5-11) in a loss at Perth Amboy Tech (9-11).

Keansburg 11, Long Branch 9

Aiden Flynn and Matt Keelen each went 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI and the Titans (4-10) topped the Green Wave (0-19). Clinton Campbell was 2-for-2 with two RBI and Adam Benetsky went 2-for-3 with three runs scored to lead Long Branch.

Colts Neck 5, Notre Dame 2

Sophomore Tosh Mancini and seniors Joe Cilea and Dave Cohen each delivered key extra-base hits late and the Cougars (13-6-1) scored five runs in the final three innings to close out a road win over the Irish (15-4).

Mancini doubled and scored on a groundout in the fifth to get Colts Neck on the board and Cilea roped a two-run double to give the Cougars the lead in the top of the sixth. Cohen capped the late scoring surge with two-run home run in the top of the seventh and finished 3-for-4 with a double to go with his two-run shot.

Junior Tyler Spencer earned the complete-game win on the mound for Colts Neck with four strikeouts and no walks.

Bridgewater-Raritan 6, Howell 5

Senior Thomas Strauch blasted his eighth home run of the season with a three-run shot in the bottom of the seventh, but it was too little, too late for the Rebels (17-6) in the loss to the Panthers (12-10).

Junior Russell Halvorsen was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, senior Nick Gallo was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI and sophomore Braden was 1-for-1 with a double, two walks and a run scored for Howell.

Senior Liam Sweeney went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI to lead CBA's 13-hit attack, but the Colts (13-9) could not contain the Tigers (11-12) in a high-scoring loss at the home of the Trenton Thunder.

Junior Zaine Toneske and senior George Kruse each went 2-for-3 with a double, with Toneske scoring twice and driving in one and Kruse driving in two. Juniors Harrison Campi (2-for-4, two runs and an RBI) and Hunter Del Guercio (1-for-4, two runs, two RBI) each doubled as well and senior Joe Figliolino was 1-for-1 with two RBI for CBA.
