When Shawn Ramcheran received a phone call late Tuesday night from Sacred Heart informing him that he had been offered his first Division 1 scholarship, the Matawan Senior could hardly hold in his excitement.
“It’s honestly a blessing,” said Ramcheran,”it's been a goal of mine ever since I began to play the sport.  It’s just great to know that my hard work is paying off.”\
Last season, Ramcheran was a key component of Matawan’s Central Jersey Group 3 state championship team.  He was lockdown at corner, always finding a way to cover receivers much bigger than him.  On offense, he accounted for 31 catches, 391 yards and 6 touchdowns. Ramcheran has also been a constant threat returning both kickoffs and punts and is always dangerous in that aspect of the game.
This season, with injuries to key players, the Huskies have gotten off to a rough start, but have won 4 straight of late, with the return of Sophomore QB LC Pearson and Senior RB Makiya Caesar.  Ramcheran has been solid all season, despite the injuries and rough start.  He has already amassed 401 receiving yards, topping last years total, on 19 catches and 4 touchdowns.  He has also continued to be lockdown in the secondary with 3 interceptions, 2 of which have been returned for touchdowns.
Sacred Heart has offered the playmaker as a defensive back, according to Ramcheran. Overall, Ramcheran is really excited about the offer, but his main focus right now is trying to lead the Huskies to back to back state championships.  Ramcheran has also heard from the University of St. Francis, the University of Delaware, and New Hampshire, where former Matawan star Jared Allison now plays.
You can see Ramcheran and the Huskies on Halloween at 1:00 in Manasquan as they take on the Warriors in a game that means a lot to both teams in the playoff standings.
