Record Setting Meet of Champions

I’m not much of a track and field guy, not because I don’t admire the athletic talents of the competitors but because it’s not a great spectator sport.
With that said I attended Wednesday’s NJSIAA Meet of Champions for two reasons, it was nearby at Central Regional High School and I wanted to see Donovan Catholic’s Alyssa Wilson perform in person. I was not disappointed.

Nelson, Pagano Lead Griffins to Championship

To me Lindsey Nelson was the longtime play-by-play voice of the New York Mets, calling their games in the 60s and 70s as part of a Hall of Fame career. However at Donovan Catholic High School Lindsay Nelson (first name spelled with an a and not an e) is the freshman softball pitcher who yesterday led the Griffins to a 3-1 victory over Notre Dame in the Non-Public South “A” championship game at Stockton University.

Changes to the All-Shore Gridiron Classic

Nothing will ever match the build-up and excitement surrounding the first All Star football game in the summer of 1978 in which a group of recent Ocean County high school graduates beat their contemporaries from Monmouth County 21-7. It was then called the Asbury Park Press All Shore Classic and the inaugural game drew over 8,000 fans at Wall Stadium which was not the ideal location.
