Monmouth County Tournament

Opening Round

(12) Ranney 11, (13) Holmdel 7

Curt Chropuvka drove in at least one run in each of his four plate appearances in a 4-for-4 game, including the game-tying RBI single during a seven-run sixth inning that propelled the Panthers past the Hornets.

Chropuvka hit an RBI single to left in his first at-bat, launched an RBI single off the high fence in centerfield in his second trip to cut Holmdel's lead to 4-2 and smacked a two-run home run in his third at-bat, cutting the Holmdel lead to 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth.

In the sixth inning, the rest of the lineup joined in, led by Nate Fuller. The freshman led the inning off with a home run to cut Holmdel's lead to 7-5 and tacked on two more with a two-run single to make it 10-7 later in the rally. Ranney pulled within 7-6 on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Costello and Chropuvka followed with a single to right to knot the score, 7-7.

Grayson Testino broke the tie with a single through the right side, plating catcher Andrew Parisi with the go-ahead run.

Holmdel took the lead with a four-run third inning, highlighted by a three-run home run by James Valillo. Centerfielder Nick Rakoski created the fifth Holmdel run with a straight steal of home plate with the bases loaded, two out and the count 0-2. The Hornets scored their last two runs thanks to Ranney errors.

(19) Rumson-Fair Haven 12, (6) Manasquan 0 (5 Innings)

Aidan Del Tin and Jack Riva hit back-to-back home runs and Brayden Ward drove in four runs with two doubles during a nine-run explosion by the Bulldogs in the fifth inning -- the knockout punch in a one-sided win over the previously-unbeaten Warriors.

Ward doubled home Gavin Kiley to extend Rumson's lead to 4-0 and Del Tin belted a three-run homer to open up a 7-0 lead before Riva homered in the next at-bat to make it 8-0. Ward later cleared the bases with a doubled to make it 11-0.

Del Tin and Riva also hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the top of the third, with Del Tin driving in two on his double and scoring on Riva's.

Freshman Max Hinchliffe bounced back from a rough high-school debut in a no-decision vs. Holmdel by pitching a two-hit shutout with just one walk on Tuesday.

No. 1 CBA 6, Freehold Twp. 2

Catcher Danny Tsimbinos belted a two-run home run to the opposite field in right in the bottom of the third and added a sacrifice fly in the three-run fifth as the Colts snapped a two-game skid by beating the Patriots.

Joe Russo opened the scoring with an RBI single in the second inning, which was enough support for sophomore right-hander Dylan Iwanyk. After taking the loss at Seton Hall Prep on Saturday, Iwanyk pitched five two-hit innings to earn his first varsity win.

Class B South

Manchester 3, Barnegat 2

Anthony Carino broke a scoreless deadlock with a two-run single in the sixth and Brenden Spaziano followed with what proved to be the game-winning RBI single as the Hawks held on to beat the Bengals for their first win of the season.

Freshman Nick Malinowski swung Barnegat back in the game with a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth but Justin Uriarte pitched out of trouble to get through six complete innings on 110 pitches. His catcher, Colton Sitarik, helped him out of the jam by picking off a runner at third base to end the inning.

The first two Barnegat batters of the seventh inning walked, which prompted Evan Palmer to replace Sean Reardon on the mound. Palmer struck out the first batter he faced and retired the next two on flyouts to end the game.

No. 7 Point Boro 3, Jackson Liberty 2

Bryson Kirby, Matt Lokerson and John Ward each came through with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Panthers rallied from a two-run deficit to beat the Lions for their fifth straight win.

Jake Clayton led off the bottom of the sixth with a single and an error parked the tying run at first base while also chasing Jackson Liberty starter Anthony Woods from the game. Kirby followed with a single to break up the shutout and moved to second base on the throw home, with Ryan Acquisto advancing to third.

Vincent Grande recorded a strikeout for the first out and induced a slow ground ball by Lokerson, but he beat it out while Acquisto scored the tying run. Ward then gave Point Boro the lead with a squeeze bunt that turned into an RBI single.
