Any team that finishes 15 games below .500 in the previous year has to have a bounce-back attitude for the upcoming season. That's exactly what head oach Tom Trembulak has provided for the Mustangs of Brick Memorial through their first three weeks.

It's been over two weeks since the Mustangs took a loss on the calendar, coming against No. 1 Southern Regional. Since their battle against arguably the best team in the state, Brick Memorial has the longest winning streak in the Shore Conference at seven games.

It hasn't been all that easy for the program, as five of the seven wins have come in three sets. Some of these wins include victories over Shore-ranked Central Regional and Toms River East, with the momentum to be nowhere at the end. In the midst of the winning streak, Coach Trembulak also picked up his 100th career win.

Brick Memorial has a superstar in junior setter Isabella McKelvey. McKelvey currently leads the team in assists, sitting with 201 and only 27 away from 500 in her total career. It doesn't seem like she'll be slowing down anytime soon. While someone who's been on the team has emerged as a perennial superstar, a rookie on the horizon has proven that the future at Brick Memorial is incredibly bright. Sophomore middle blocker Emily Fitzgerald has emerged into the spotlight as one of the top talents on the team, leading the team in kills with 65 and second on the team in digs with 66. Junior libero Isabella Cottrell has proven to been an absolute menace on the court. With a dastardly serve that at times is untouchable, she leads the team with 81 service points and 29 aces. She also leads the team in digs with 79. The Mustangs have cultivated a "big-three" in these dynamic student-athletes, as they've continued to shine within their stretch of winning.

That being said, Brick Memorial was named the Jersey Mike’s Team of the Week in week 2 for their extremely dedicated work and craft, on the court and off the court. A team with aspirations to get back to floating surface have leaped to a whole new level. Teams across the Shore Conference are really getting to know who this program is. The Mustangs will have a massive matchup against Southern on October 6th as well as another massive divisional matchup at Central Regional on the 10th. The sky is the limit for Coach Trembulak's Mustangs, looking to get ready for deep runs into the heart of October.
