Holmdel Holiday Tournament

Rumson-Fair Haven senior Marcus Iwama, a returning Region VI champion, defeated Manasquan's Benjamin Meseroll by a 21-4 technical fall in the 138-pound final to capture his fourth Holmdel Holiday Tournament title, and was named the Outstanding Wrestler for the fourth consecutive year. Iwama also recorded his 100th career victory during the tournament to become the third Bulldogs wrestler in program history to reach the century mark, joining Patrick Berger (104 wins, 2003 graduate) and Bryan Heller (2003), the latter of whom is the team's current head coach and all-time wins leader with 118.

Shore Regional won the team title with two champions and four second-place finishers to finish with 147 points, edging Freehold (136.5) and Holmdel (131). Freshman Chris Dean came from the No. 4 seed to win the 106-pound bracket, knocking off the top two seeds on his way to the title. At 145 pounds, junior Alex Johnson continued his torrid start with two pins and a 7-0 decision over Lakewood's Marco Quintero in the final to improve to 8-0 with seven pins on the season.

Monahan scored a 1-0 decision over Shore's Tim Klemser to win the 113-pound title while Theodostatos won by fall in all three of his wins to claim the 220-pound crown.

Host Holmdel had four champions, including three straight from 120 through 132 pounds. Senior Pat Ammirati had two pins and won by 16-6 major decision over Shore's Danny Welsh in the 120-pound final, sophomore Troy Gallo defeat Lakewood's Francisco Sastic 6-2 to win at 126 pounds and freshman Scott Dupont beat the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 seeds on his way to winning at 132 pounds.
