Every week this spring, Windmill Restaurants and Shore Sports Network will be selecting a Boys Lacrosse Team of the Week based on its performance over the past week.

The Windmill Team of the Week for Week 1 is Christian Brothers Academy, which won four games to open the season and reach the No. 5 ranking in New Jersey. Shore Sports Network and Windmill were at practice Friday evening to present the Colts and head coach Dave Santos with a special Team of the Week certificate and a $300 Windmill gift card.

CBA opened the season with a dominant 16-4 victory over St. John Vianney in a matchup of returning Shore Conference Tournament semifinalists. Nine different players scored goals in the Colts’ season-opener to showcase the team’s scoring depth. An Easter weekend trip to New York followed and the Colts were able to come away with a 13-7 victory over CBA-Syracuse in a battle of the Brothers.

The Colts’ signature victory so far this season came on April 5 against Don Bosco Prep when they rallied from a two-goal deficit with three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter for an 8-7 win at Georgian Court University. Freshman Kyle Aldridge supplied the game-winning goal and Michael Carroll and Connor Macrae had three goals each. CBA’s win over the Ironmen helped it vault to the No. 5 ranking in the NJ.com Top 20. Don Bosco was coming off a 9-4 win over Ridgewood, and the following day Ridgewood defeated Westfield, 9-8 in overtime. CBA then ascended 15 spots from No. 20 to No. 5 in the state.

CBA concluded its week with a 14-2 victory over Middletown South in its Shore Conference Class A North division-opening game.

A balanced offense has been key for the Colts. They currently have five players with 13 or more points. Senior midfielder Luke Valentino leads the way with 12 goals and seven assists and Carroll has nine goals and seven assists. The defense has also been solid allowing a shade under five goals per game.

The Colts return to action on Saturday against Neptune in a Class A North game, but Monday (weather permitting) features what is likely the marquee game of the regular season as they will host top-ranked Manasquan in a matchup of the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the Shore Sports Network Top 10.
