VOTE: Week 2 Girls Basketball Player of the Week
Each week over the course of this high school basketball season, Shore Sports Network and Burger 25 will recognize some of the outstanding performances by players and give readers the chance to pick one as the Player of the Week who will receive a $25 gift card from the popular Toms River restaurant.Below are this week’s nominees with some brief highlights as to why they have been nominated. Vote once per hour in the poll at the bottom until voting ends Wednesday at 10 p.m.
Destiny Adams, Manchester
She had another monster week for the Hawks who won three games in a four day span. In two games against Pinelands the North Carolina recruit had 57 points and grabbed 37 rebounds and in between Adams poured in 27 points and hauled down 15 rebounds against Toms River North. That’s an average of 28pts & 17rebs for the week.
Gianna Aiello, Matawan
Coming off a junior season in which she averaged a double-double the 6’3 center has picked right back up. In back-to-back games against Raritan last week she had 22 points & 10rebounds and then 17 points and 12 rebounds as the Huskies won both.
Maura Carney, Jackson Liberty
Quite a week for the senior guard. Against Freehold Boro on Wednesday she hit 5 3’s, scored 23 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and added 4 steals. Then on Friday against Southern needing 20 for 1,000 in her career Carney netted 21 to go along with 7 rebounds and 3 assists.
Caitlyn Decker, Red Bank
The senior point guard was a big reason why the Bucs were able to pick up wins over Freehold Township and Middletown South last week. She had 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 8 assists in a three point win over the Patriots and then followed that up with 20 points and 7 assists against the Eagles.
Shayne Eldridge, Wall
The Crimson Knights went 1-2 in their first week of action and it did not take long for the freshman guard to be noticed. After scoring 9 in her varsity debut against Neptune she came back with 18 against the Scarlet Fliers (4 3’s) and then poured in 24 points in a win over Point Beach. She led the team with 10 steals in the three games.
Alexis Linton, Jackson Memorial
The Rancocas Valley transfer has combined with Rachel Capua to give the Jaguars one of the top guard combos in the shore and state. In two games against Central Linton scored 47 points and had 5 steals in each game. She needs just 55 points for 1,000 in her career.
Madison St. Rose, St. John Vianney
After sitting out the first week the Lady Lancers scored a pair of impressive wins over Rumson-Fair Haven and the Princeton commit led the way. She put up 18 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals in the opener and came back the next night with 25 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 7 steals. The junior is among the top players in the state.
Honorable mention goes to Olivia Conroy (Donovan Catholic), Rachel Capua (Jackson Memorial), Chloe Teter (Red Bank), Lila Shaver (Point Boro), Katherine Martini (Holmdel) and McKayla Mooney (Lacey). To be eligible for the weekly honor players must appear in a minimum of two games.
