Each week over the course of this high school basketball season, Shore Sports Network and Burger 25 will recognize some of the outstanding performances by Girls players and give readers the chance to pick one as the Player of the Week who will receive a $25 gift card from the popular Toms River restaurant.

While there were many games canceled in the opening week of the season there will plenty of highlights and here are some of the best performers of the week.

Destiny Adams, Manchester

The North Carolina commit was a handful for Jackson Liberty in a pair of Hawks victories to open the season.  Adams had 27 points, 16 rebounds and 7 blocks in the opener and two nights later torched the Lions for 30 points along with 21 rebounds and 6 assists.

 

Abby Antognoli, St. Rose

The 5’7 guard got off to a great start with a pair of dazzling performances as the Purple Roses split two games with rival Manasquan.  The Lafayette College recruit scored 26 points (5 3-pointers) in an opening night three point loss but came back to pour in 30 points and hand out six assists in a 7-point victory two days later.

Bridget Dudas, Pinelands

The junior guard was the difference as the Bengals slipped by Pinelands for a pair of close wins to open the season as she scored nearly half her teams points.  Dudas had 15 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals in the opener and added 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals in the rematch.

Caitlin Gresko, Howell

The Rebels rolled to a pair of wins over Lakewood with the Brandeis commit leading the way.  Gresko had 28 points in the opener and added 21 points just 48 hours later.

Madison LaRosa, Shore

The Blue Devils split a pair of games with the senior four-year starter scoring 23 points in each.  In their opening night win over Freehold LaRosa became the first Shore girls player in more than a decade to top the 1,000 point plateau.

Grace Munt, Rumson-Fair Haven

In a battle of top ten teams Munt helped RFH sweep a pair from Ridge Road rival Red Bank.  The Holy Cross commit had 7 points and 6 rebounds on Wednesday but was virtually unstoppable two nights later when she scored 25 of her 31 points in the second half as the Bulldogs rallied from a ten-point deficit.  Munt hit all five of her 3-pointers in the third quarter to lead Rumson.

Gabriella Ross, Donovan Catholic

The Griffins posted a pair of close wins over Freehold Township with the sophomore transfer leading the way.  Ross hit five 3’s and poured-in 29 points to go along with 5 rebounds in an opening night overtime victory and added 12 points and 5 rebounds three days later.
