The pairings were announced yesterday for the 34th annual WOBM Christmas Classic which is the 32-team boys and girls high school basketball tournament we run over six days during the holiday season at the Toms River Athletic Arena, formally the Pine Belt Arena.

Those pairings were determined by the head coaches Sunday night during a seeding meeting at The Villa which is the private party facility associated with the Office Restaurant and Lounge in Toms River.

Just to let you know how it works, the coaches speak briefly about their teams and then vote on how they should be seeded from 1-16.  Basically we count up the ballots and those point totals determine the matchups for the opening round which will be on Saturday, December 23.

On the boys side Toms River North earned the top seed and a first round game against Jackson Memorial.  Manasquan was picked second and will face Toms River South in another of the eight boy’s games on the opening day.  Red Bank Catholic and defending champion Freehold Township round out the top four teams in the field.

Manchester is the #1 seed among a host of talented teams in the girls division as they return three starters from a squad that won a sectional championship last winter.  The Hawks will meet Sayreville in the opening round while second seed and defending champion Toms River North plays Central.

Ewing, Donovan Catholic and Middletown South also rate highly in what should be a very competitive tournament.   A complete list of the pairings and schedules is available at wobm.com.

This year’s WOBM Christmas Classic is presented by See the Rim Academy which has just opened in the Home Depot Shopping Center in Toms River.  New Jersey’s premier basketball training center, See the Rim works with players starting with those in first grade.  For information visit seetherim.com
