Thrive Week 2 Girls Soccer Player of the Week

Lauren Kurzynowski, Donovan Catholic

Junior Lauren Kurzynowski from Donovan Catholic has been tested a great deal to start this season and last week, her performance in goal helped give the Griffins their first win of the season. She also had a stellar performance in a game that Donovan lost in double overtime.

Her play resulted in her being chosen by the fans as Week 2 Thrive Girls Soccer Player of the Week in the 2023 season.

Kurzynowski helped give Donovan Catholic their first win against division rival Jackson Liberty early in the week. She held Jackson Liberty forward Delaney Spalthoff, who has three multi-goal games this season, to one goal in the 2-1 victory.  Friday, she reached double-digits in saves against Colts Neck in a Shore Conference Tournament Group 3 game. In that game, Kurzynowski stopped breakaways and several point-blank shots to force the game into double-overtime, but the Griffins eventually conceded the game-winner to the Cougars.

Kurzynowski collected 31.4 percent of the votes casted for the Week 2 Player of the Week award. Colts Neck's Terri Morgan (22.4 percent) was the runner-up and led three nominees with at least 10 percent of the vote. Point Pleasant Beach’s Mackenzie Highland (16.8) and Jackson Memorial’s Caitlin Mahala (10) were the other two.

As the second Thrive Girls Soccer Player of the Week of the 2023 season, Kurzynowski will receive a shirt and a free training session courtesy of Thrive.
