The “Green Wave” rolled into Rutgers University on Saturday afternoon in their quest to win a championship.

16 entered the weekend with a chance to reach their dream, a trip to the finals and play for a State Championship. 7 remain, including at least one participant in each of the five Central Jersey groups.

26 entered and 16 survived the first round. We now enter the semifinals of the State playoffs with shore area teams still alive for the big trophy.

Whether you believe in the process or not, the New Jersey State football championships will begin on Friday night and 26 teams from the 43 schools that play high school football in the shore have made the tournament.

The New Jersey football playoff brackets will be completed this coming weekend and 184 schools will make the cut within the 23 sections that the state is divided into.

With 2 weeks left before we add all the numbers up to see what teams may get a chance to play for a State Championship, let’s take a tentative look at who might get in.

Friday night our Jersey Mike's Game of the Week took us to 5-0 Manalapan and a matchup with unbeaten 5-0 Howell.

As we pass the midway point of the 2017 season the playoffs are looming for about 22-24 schools.

With games spread over the long weekend, it gave me a chance to see a few games after our Thursday night radio game.

I'll start this week's blog with my take on the teams that get little or no respect but carry undefeated records into week 4.

Over the course of the last 2 years, we have witnessed and may now be witnessing the 2 best offensive players to ever come out of the Shore.

While we watch and pray for the people in harms way down in Florida and in the Caribbean, the weather in New Jersey was perfect for the main start to the 2017 high school football season.
