In an homage to a National Hockey League tradition dating back to the 1936-1937 season, Shore Sports Network will be selecting three standouts from each day of Shore Conference ice hockey. The Three Stars of the Day will be posted each morning for the previous day's games.

First Star

Aiden Cavendish, Jr., Fwd., Middletown South

Middletown South vs. Middletown North is among the Shore's best rivalries regardless of sport, and this round went to the Eagles. Cavendish led the way by having a hand in all four goals, tallying two goals and assisting on two others as Middletown South skated to a 4-1 victory. Cavendish has five goals and 10 assists in 11 games for the Eagles, all of which are career single-season highs.

Second Star

Ronan Hickey, Sr., Goalie, Rumson-Fair Haven

In this COVID-shortened season, Rumson has been big-game hunting as much as possible and on Tuesday secured another impressive victory by going on the road and shutting down defending Public C state champion Summit, 3-0. Hickey has had an outstanding career for the Bulldogs and against the Hilltoppers he made 24 saves to record his second shutout of the season. Rumson remains unbeaten at 7-0-2.

Third Star

Trey Mattern, Jr., Goalie, Southern Regional

The Rams needed only one goal to defeat the Catholic tri-op (St. Rose/Donovan/RBC) on Tuesday thanks to Mattern, who stopped all 32 shots he faced to lead Southern to a 1-0 victory. Earlier in the week, Mattern recorded his 1,000th career save in a victory over Freehold.
