Friday, Sept. 20

American Division

No. 3 Rumson-Fair Haven 49, Long Branch 20

Junior running back John Volker ran for two touchdowns and caught another and senior quarterback Collin Coles threw two touchdown passes as the Bulldogs (2-1, 2-0) rebounded from a loss with a lopsided win over the Green Wave (1-2, 0-1).

Colts had a 65-yard touchdown pass to Volker and a 23-yard touchdown pass to Patrick Jamin. Pete Crowley had a 10-yard touchdown run and Dan Afflito had a short touchdown while junior free safety Ryan Ruane returned an interception for a touchdown.

Senior running back Jermaine Corbett had a 32-yard touchdown run and also caught a pair of touchdown passes from senior quarterback Nick Reilly to lead Long Branch.

 

Middletown South 30, No. 6 Red Bank Catholic 7

Quarterback Tyler Cuccia ran for three touchdowns and senior running back Chris Lotito threw a touchdown pass to senior wideout Matt Krellin as the Eagles (1-2, 1-1) earned a much-needed win over the Caseys (1-2, 0-2).

Cuccia had two 1-yard rushing touchdowns and a 23-yard touchdown run. Lotito's touchdown pass to Krellin was from 20 yards out on third and 10 with 5:15 left in the game. Mike D'Amato kicked a 26-yard field goal.

Ryan Edgerly threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Joe Diorio for Red Bank Catholic.

 

No. 7 Toms River North 42, No. 8 Manalapan 40

Junior quarterback Jake Kazanowsky completed 8 of 11 passes for 253 yards and four touchdowns to lead an offense that rolled up 433 yards of offense and the Mariners' defense halted a 2-point conversion attempt in the fourth quarter to win a wild game over the Braves (2-1, 1-1).

Junior wide receiver Zach Browne caught four passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns and junior wide receiver Zach Goodale caught two passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns. Junior running back Jordan Grey ran for 106 yards and two touchdowns in relief of injured starter Jarrod Pruitt.

Manalapan senior quarterback Sean Kehley went 16-for-25 for 232 yards and four touchdowns. Senior running back Andre Johnson ran for 175 yards, senior tight end Matt Benedetti caught five passes for 61 yards and three touchdowns, sophomore wideout Paul Wojciechowski caught three passes for 67 yards and a touchdown while fullback Andrew Gritsiuk and running back Raymond Vender each ran for short touchdowns.

Toms River North took a 42-20 lead when Kazanowsky connected with Browne on a 65-yard touchdown pass with 10:23 left in regulation. Manalapan responded with a 7-play, 78-yard drive to cut the Mariners' lead to 42-27, then executed a successful onside kick to recover at the TRN 47-yard line. On the next play, Kehley threw a 47-yard touchdown pass to Wojciechowski to pull to within 42-34. The Braves then forced a three-and-out and Johnson broke a 60-yard run to set up a 2-yard touchdown run by Vender. Toms River North stopped the 2-point conversion pass, however, to stay in front.

 

Colonial Division

No. 2 Wall 24, No. 9 Jackson Memorial 0

The Crimson Knights (3-0, 1-0) erupted for 24 points in the fourth quarter to snap a scoreless tie and earn an impressive road victory over the Jaguars (1-2, 0-2).

A 3-yard touchdown run by Matt DeSarno early in the fourth quarter gave Wall a 7-0 lead before the Knights turned a fumble recovery into a 33-yard field goal by Matt Oakley. Casey Larkin returned an interception 27 yards for a touchdown and Dale McNalley capped the victory with a 20-yard touchdown run.

Wall has allowed just 13 points this season in wins over Middletown North, Rumson-Fair Haven and Jackson Memorial.

 

No. 5 St. John Vianney 45, Brick 21

Senior running back Kavon Chambers ran for 180 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries and senior quarterback CJ Duell threw for 193 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for a touchdown to lead the Lancers (2-0, 1-0) past the Dragons (1-2, 0-2).

Sophomore Jayden Bellamy caught a 35-yard touchdown pass and also returned an interception for a touchdown. Junior Josh East hauled in a 59-yard touchdown catch. Mason Shenk added a 37-yard field goal.

Anthony Prato ran for a pair of touchdowns and Joe Armooh ran for one touchdown for Brick.

 

Constitution Division

No. 10 Middletown North 14, Marlboro 10

Sophomore running back Brian Haddow ran for 105 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries and senior Matt Spencer returned a kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown as the Lions (2-1, 1-0) survived an upset bid by the Mustangs (0-3, 0-1).

Senior linebacker Eddie Farrell led the Middletown North defense with 16 tackles (10 solo) along with three tackles for loss. Senior Kaden Letual and freshman Jacinto Lopez each recorded sacks and junior Quentin Soler had an interception.

 

Southern 28, Howell 14

Sophomore running back Jaiden Brown ran for 205 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries to lead the Rams (2-1, 1-0) to a victory over the Rebels (0-3, 0-1).

Brown had a 59-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to give Southern a 7-0 lead an scored on a 5-yard run in the fourth quarter to extend the Rams' lead to 28-14. Senior quarterback Cole Robinson added a 64-yard touchdown pass to sophomore  Nate Committee and a 4-yard touchdown pass to senior tight end JT Cornelius.

Brown also had two interceptions on defense while JP Ricciardi made eight tackles with two tackles for loss and Seb Cervetto recorded two sacks and two tackles for loss to lead Southern's defense.

 

Brick Memorial 29, Freehold Township 22

Senior quarterback Anthony Albanese threw a touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Mekhi Irving with under a minute left in regulation as the Mustangs (1-2, 1-0) rallied past the Patriots (0-3, 0-1).

Freehold Township had scored and converted a two-point conversion with 1:50 left to erase a 21-14 deficit.

Albanese completed 18 of 28 passes for 219 yards and a touchdown and also ran for 88 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. Junior Akhi Barksdale caught six passes for 105 yards and ran for 78 yards and a touchdown on seven carries.

Junior quarterback Lorenzo Chirichella completed 19 of 35 passes for 227 yards and two touchdowns to lead Freehold Township. Senior Jake Cancela caught six passes for 106 yards and senior running back Nic Nasso caught six passes for 71 yards and a touchdown. Senior Jayson Nami had touchdown run and a touchdown catch.

 

Freedom Division

Colts Neck 33, Matawan 23

A touchdown run by sophomore quarterback Tommy Fallon with four minutes to play gave Colts Neck the lead and junior running back Joe Barsky added a long touchdown run to clinch a comeback win for the Cougars (3-0, 1-0) over the Huskies (0-2, 0-1).

Colts Neck's ground game was unstoppable as senior running back Romeo Thomas ran for 178 yards and two touchdowns, Fallon ran for 137 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries and Barsky ran for 90 yards and two touchdowns on six carries. The Cougars rolled up 405 yards rushing on an average of 10.7 yards per carry.

Barsky and senior Aidan Horan tied for the team lead with 11 tackles and one tackle for loss. Delano Marcelus, Tom Lidondici and Chris Montefusco each recorded sacks and John Manos intercepted two passes.

 

Toms River East 28, Jackson Liberty 0

Senior quarterback Mike Goodall ran for 91 yards and a touchdown and added 56 yards passing and a touchdown as the Raiders (3-0, 2-0) blanked the Lions (0-2, 0-1).

Senior running back Frankie Giannetti ran for 81 yards and two touchdowns and Justin Deem caught a 32-yard touchdown pass from Goodall. Yousef Ahmed made seven tackles with two tackles for loss while Giannetti and Frank Lord also had tackles for loss. Nick Totten added an interception.

 

Neptune 50, Lakewood 20

 

Liberty Division

No. 4 Donovan Catholic 31, Holmdel 0

Senior quarterback Ryan Clark ran for 105 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 117 yards while the defense held Holmdel under 100 yards of offense to record their third straight shutout to start the season.

Nasir Calhoun and Jahdir Loftland added short touchdown runs and Keaon Torres kicked a 27-yard field goal. Chris Aldrich and Nico Ippolito each had fumble recoveries on defense.

 

Lacey 34, Central 21WATCH THE REPLAY

Bobby Evans ran for a touchdown and caught two touchdown passes from Noah Brunatti as the Lions (3-0, 1-0) topped the rival Golden Eagles (1-1, 0-1) as the two teams met for the first time in eight years.

Fullback Scott Stevens added a 2-yard touchdown run and Brunatti also threw a touchdown pass to senior tight end Mike Kudlacik on fourth down with 3:28 to play to extend Lacey's lead to 34-21.

Brunatti completed 10 of 15 passes for 203 yards and three touchdowns and Evans caught three passes for 126 yards. Senior Mike Kudlacik recorded two tackles for loss and recovered a fumble and senior Nicholas Povia blocked a field goal.

Landon Richardson had a touchdown run early in the game while quarterback Gavin Whalen had to short touchdown runs and also threw a 2-point conversion pass to Danny Taris for Central.

 

Red Bank 21, Manasquan 7

Senior quarterback Jack Chamberlain ran for a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass and David Hicks returned a kickoff for a touchdown to lead the Bucs (3-0, 1-0) to a win over the Warriors (0-2, 0-1).

Chamberlain had a 4-yard touchdown run and threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to AJ Abarno. Manasquan scored on a touchdown pass from Cam Teza to John Foreman in the fourth quarter but Hicks returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown to give Red Bank back its two-score lead.

 

Patriot Division

Raritan 35, Point Boro 14

Mike Fiore and Danny Fiore each scored twice on the ground and Steve Coponi threw a touchdown pass to Jaylen Smith as the Rockets (2-1, 1-0) topped the Panthers (1-2, 1-1).

Mike Fiore ran for 77 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries and Danny Fiore ran for 66 yards and two touchdowns on five carries. Caponi threw for 103 yards and a 55-yard touchdown to Smith and also ran for 66 yards.

 

Barnegat 28, Shore 22

Junior running back TJ Crudup ran for 100 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries and senior Matt Scott returned a punt 82 yards for a touchdown to give the Bengals (2-1, 1-1) a victory over the Blue Devils (1-2, 0-1).

Senior Matt Vernieri came down with an interception with 2:54 left to seal the win. Senior tight end Isaiah Gerena, a transfer from Holy Spirit, made a huge impact with nine receptions for 145 yards and a two-point conversion catch.

Junior running back Shane McLaughlin had all three touchdowns for Shore, running for a 20-yard score, taking a screen pass 53 yards for a touchdown and catching a 40-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Mike McGhee. McLaughlin ran for 130 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries and caught six passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns. McGhee completed 7 of 12 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.

 

National Division

Point Beach 10, Pinelands 0

Jack Akins threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Matt Van Brunt and George Kaiafas kicked a 20-yard field goal as the Garnet Gulls (3-0, 2-0) blanked the Wildcats (0-2, 0-2) to earn their second straight shutout.

Senior Jason Sherlock made 12 tackles with one sack and three tackles for loss and Kaiafas made nine tackles with three tackles for loss and one sack. Liam Buday also had three tackles for loss and a sack. Van Brunt, Aidan Conway and David Terra-Nova each had interceptions.

 

Nondivisional

Toms River South 13, Manchester 7

Travis Squire ran for a 51-yard touchdown and Jack Huber threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to lead the Indians (1-1) pat the Hawks (1-2).

Jimmy Johns threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Gavin Clark for Manchester.

 

Saturday, Sept. 21

Colonial Division

No. 1 Mater Dei Prep 55, Freehold 0

 

Patriot Division

Ocean 41, Monmouth 6

Senior running back Trebor Pena ran for three touchdowns as the Spartans (2-0, 1-0) opened a 34-0 halftime lead en route to defeating the rival Falcons (0-2, 0-1).

Pena scored on runs of 23, 3 and 52 yards and piled up 166 yards on just nine carries in the first half. Senior quarterback Robbie Nungesser added a 27-yard touchdown run and Nasir Thompson scored on a 3-yard run in the first half. Ishyne Woodard scored on a 10-yard run in the third quarter to make it 41-0.

Monmouth avoided the shutout when Keontae Wiggins broke off a 92-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter.

 

National Division

Keansburg 34, Keyport 21

Sophomore running back Mikail Braithwaite ran for 195 yards and two touchdowns and also threw a touchdown pass to senior Nasir Williams as the Titans (1-1, 1-1) beat the Red Raiders (0-3, 0-2) in their rivalry showdown.

Williams also had a 90-yard kickoff return touchdown and junior running back Patrick Beltran ripped off a 52-yard touchdown run.

Troy Alvarez threw for 241 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for a touchdown. He connected with DJ Thomsonon a 31-yard score and found Zack Connallon for a 10-yard touchdown.
