Perfection should be rewarded, and in a year when there were no official tournaments, we at the Shore Sports Network decided even before the season began to recognize our top-ranked girls basketball team at the end of the season.

Thanks to support from our partners at Jersey Mike's, we visited St. John Vianney High School this week to present the Lady Lancers with a trophy as the Team of the Year following a season in which they went 14-0 and rolled to a dominating victory in the championship pod of the week-long Shore Conference postseason event.

In addition to a trophy, we also presented head coach Dawn Karpell and her team with $250 in gift cards from Jersey Mike's as recognition of their amazing season which saw the Lady Lancers finish as the No. 1 team in New Jersey for the second straight year.

While SJV will lose Emma Bruen, Katie Hill and Sianna Bradley to graduation they will return one of the state's premier players in Princeton recruit Madison St. Rose along with talented players including Meg Cahalan, Ashley O'Connor and Ashley Sofilkanich.

We are delighted to recognize the players and coaches at St. John Vianney for a historic season under extraordinary obstacles. Along with Jersey Mike's and Ocean Trophies, we salute the Lady Lancers as the Shore Sports Network Team of the Year.
