OCT Gets Underway With Jackson The Defending Champs

Donovan Catholic hosts Barnegat today as the opening round of the Al Kunzman Ocean County Baseball Tournament gets underway.  The 2^nd seeded Griffins (11-1), winners of six straight will host the #15 Bengals (2-12) at their Whitty Road complex at 3:45.

The other 7 first-round games are all scheduled for Saturday, including top-seed and defending champion Jackson Memorial who will entertain #16 Pinelands at 2pm.  The Jaguars beat Central in last year’s final behind tournament MVP Charlie Meglio who belted a 3-run homer and added a double in an 11-2 rout of the Golden Eagles.

The quarterfinals are scheduled for Tuesday and the semifinals on Friday (May 12), both at the higher seed.  The tentative date for the championship game is Tuesday, May 16 at Central’s Al Leiter Baseball Park at Al Kunzman Memorial Field.
