Ice Hockey – Three Stars for Wednesday, Feb. 3
In an homage to a National Hockey League tradition dating back to the 1936-1937 season, Shore Sports Network will be selecting three standouts from each day of Shore Conference ice hockey. The Three Stars of the Day will be posted each morning for the previous day's games.
First Star
Colin Grable, Sr., D, Christian Brothers Academy
Grable was seemingly everywhere during CBA's 5-1 victory over Pope John. In addition to playing his usual stout defensive game, Grable had two goals and an assist as the Colts shook off a bad-by-their-standards first period to overwhelm the Lions over the final 30 minutes. In six games, the senior captain has four goals and five assists for the No. 1 team in New Jersey.
Second Star
Dmitri Kapranov, Jr., G, Marlboro
Kapranov has been fantastic this season and on Wednesday made 23 saves to earn his second shutout of the season as Marlboro skated past Wall, 3-0. Last week, he made 45 saves in a 3-3 tie with St. John Vianney and has a .944 save percentage this season.
Third Star
Peyton Fobes, Jr., Fwd., Freehold Township
Fobes scored twice in the first period and then assisted on Jake Butlers's eventual game-winning goal in the second period as the Patriots held off Red Bank for a 5-4 victory, handing the Bucs their first loss of the season. Fobes leads Freehold Township in goals (4) and is second on the team with six points through five games.
