Move over Raven Saunders because there is a new national record-holder for high school athletes in the girls Shot Put and she is from Ocean County. Donovan Catholic senior Alyssa Wilson’s throw of 57 feet, 5.5 inches Tuesday night at the Eastern State Indoor Championships at the New York Armory is the new standard and ends Wilson’s pursuit of the national record.   Saunders, now an NCAA Champion at the University of Mississippi, held the previous record of 56 feet, 7.5 inches which she set in 2014 while competing for Burke High School in Charleston, South Carolina.

Wilson had the second longest throw in history before setting the new record last night. The Jackson native announced her commitment in October to accept a scholarship offer to UCLA which she hopes will prepare her to represent the United States in the Olympic Games in the future.
