Sophomore Bryan Antoine scored a game-high 33 points, including the 1,000th of his young high school career as the Panthers (20-3) pulled away to beat the Lions (14-9) and advance to the SCT semifinals for the first time in program history.
Antoine also grabbed eight rebounds and handed out four assists. He scored his milestone basket on a three-pointer from the left wing late in the second quarter. Antoine now has 1,020 points heading into Ranney's Tuesday night semifinal at Pine Belt Arena against No. 6 Marlboro.
Sophomore Ahmadu Sarnor, who scored 1,000 points as an eighth-grader and freshman at Collegium Charter in Pa. before transferring to Ranney for this season, added 19 points and 10 rebounds for Ranney. Sophomore Scottie Lewis also added 18 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and four blocks in the win.
Sophomore Rob Higgins scored 20 points to lead Middletown North, which jumped out to a 14-6 lead and was tied, 17-17, with the second-seeded Panthers heading to the second quarter.
Junior Sky Cherry also scored 14 points and hit four three-pointers for Middletown North.
(6) Marlboro 69, (3) Freehold Twp. 59
Sophomore Dylan Kaufman scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and senior Dan Weiss poured in 11 of his 20 points in the first quarter to help lead the Mustangs (16-5) past the Patriots (21-2) and into the SCT semifinals for the first time in school history. Marlboro will take on No. 2 Ranney in Tuesday's second semifinal game at 7:45 p.m.
Senior P.J. Ringel added 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals and senior Ryan LaRocca had 14 points, four assists and four steals, including three of his four three-pointers in the second half.
Senior Steve Staklinski led Freehold Township with 16 points and seven rebounds, but was limited by foul trouble. He sat most of the second quarter with two fouls and fouled out with 4:49 left.
Senior Ryan Zyskowski added 13 points, sophomore Greg Billups had nine and senior Bobby Weise added eight points, six rebounds and five assists in the loss.
(1) Mater Dei Prep 80, (9) Manasquan 55
Junior Kyle Cardaci scored a game-high 23 points and senior Elijah Barnes scored his 1,000th career point in the final minute as the Seraphs (22-3) pulled away to beat the Warriors (16-9) and advance to the SCT semifinals for the second straight year.
Barnes finished with 17 points and reached the milestone on a three-pointer from the right wing that he banked in with 25 seconds left. Cardaci, meanwhile, hit six three-pointers, scored 11 points in the first quarter and nine more in the third.
Junior Kenny Jones also poured in 19 points for Mater Dei and junior Yasin Pretlow chipped in 10 off the bench.
Sophomore Brad McCabe led Manasquan with 21 points and senior Devin Jensen poured in 20 for the Warriors, who grabbed a 33-32 lead less than two minutes into the third quarter before Mater Dei answered with 12 straight points to regain control.
(5) Toms River North 79, (4) Rumson-Fair Haven 35
Senior Mike Nyisztor scored 18 points and hit six of Toms River North's 14 three-pointers as the Mariners (24-1) routed the Bulldogs (20-2) to advance to the SCT semifinals for the fourth time in the last five years. Toms River North will take on Mater Dei Prep in Tuesday's semifinal at Pine Belt Arena - a rematch of last year's semifinal, which Mater Dei won.
Junior Holden Petrick added 17 points and connected on three three-pointers, all of which came in the first 2:30 of the third quarter. Senior Jaden Rhoden also added 10 points, 12 rebounds and five assists while senior Darrion Carrington chipped in six points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
Sophomore Ian O'Connor and senior Tyler Pierson each scored eight points to lead Rumson.
