For the first time in the 34 years of the tournament, the WOBM Christmas Classic will open with a jam-packed Saturday of opening-round games in both the boys and girls brackets. Boys WOBM Christmas Classic - Bracket

First Round

At Toms River Athletic Arena

(5) Marlboro 61, (12) Manchester 41

Junior Dylan Kaufman scored 19 of his game-high 29 points in the second half to go with 12 rebounds and the Mustangs (2-2) pulled away to beat the Hawks (0-4).

Senior Brian Levine led a balanced effort by the supporting cast to Kaufman, scoring eight points. He also added five assists and three steals.

Sophomore Josh Hayes led Manchester with 14 points while senior Jerry Ward pitched in 12 in the loss.

(13) Brick Memorial 61, (4) Freehold Twp. 56 - Full Story and Highlights

Senior Vin Vecchione scored 18 points and the Mustangs (3-0) beat the defending WOBM champion Patriots (1-3) to advance to Tuesday's Christmas Classic quarterfinals against fifth-seeded Marlboro.

Senior Vin Hernandez added 10 points, seniors Anthony Argondizza and Jake Sliazis each scored nine and junior Nick Manso poured in eight for Brick Memorial.

Freehold Township jumped out to a 28-19 lead by the latter part of the second quarter, but a 13-1 run by the Mustangs over the remainder of the second and early part of the third swung the game in their favor.

The Patriots cut a nine-point deficit to 54-50 but Hernandez and Sliazis each came up with a steal and layup to push the lead to eight.

Senior Ja'Zeem Foster led Freehold Township with a game-high 19 points, including 10 in the first quarter. Junior Seth Meisner added 14 points and freshman Zach Orrico hit four three-pointers for 12 points.

(9) St. Rose 56, (8) Donovan Catholic 48

Senior Dave Calloway scored 13 of his team-high 15 points in the second half and the Purple Roses (3-1) topped the Griffins (2-2) to advance to Tuesday's WOBM quarterfinal round.

Calloway was one of four St. Rose players to reach double-figure scoring, with sophomore John Beattie adding 13 points, senior Sean Culley pouring in 12 and junior Brady Shea netting 11. Culley scored all of his points on four first-half threes.

Senior Jethro Moll led Donovan Catholic with a game-high 20 points and junior Matt Melon poured in 10 in the loss.

(1) No. 9 Toms River North 44, (16) Jackson Memorial 35

Senior Travis Holland and junior Nick Dunscak each scored nine points to lead a balanced effort in a low-scoring, Mariners win over the Jaguars.

Nick Kinzler led Jackson Memorial with eight points and Jackson Memorial had Toms River North even, 23-23, late in the third quarter.

Toms River North will play No. 9 seed St. Rose in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

(6) Point Boro 69, (11) Toms River East 62

Senior Connor Costigan scored a career-high 30 points and the Panthers (4-0) led wire-to-wire in a first-round win over the Raiders (1-3).

Senior John Duda added 16 points, senior John Chipak poured in 11 and senior Connor Strickland chipped in eight points and six assists.

Senior Nick Silvia led Toms River East with 20 points, while senior Jack Goodall pitched in 13 in the loss. Senior Nick Shortino added 10 points and sophomore Mike Goodall hit three three-pointers for nine points for Toms River East.

(3) Red Bank Catholic 66, (14) Lacey 51

Sophomore Charlie Gordinier led five RBC players in double-figure scoring with 16 points and the Caseys (3-1) downed the Lions (1-3) to advance to the WOBM quarterfinals Tuesday against No. 6 Point Boro.

Senior Matt Ansell poured in 13 points, junior John Duffy netted 11 and both junior Steve Lubischer and senior John Kelly chipped in 10 apiece for RBC.

Junior Carl Swenson and sophomore Kalvin Kuhn each scored 14 points to lead Lacey, which had four players in double-figures. Sophomore Jordan Cohen scored 11 and junior Kevin O'Rourke poured in 10 in the loss.

Senior Ryan Purcell scored 19 of his game-high 22 points in the first half and the Eagles (3-1) raced out to a 49-18 halftime lead over the Golden Eagles (0-4) and never looked back.

Senior Nick Unrath added 18 points and senior Dave Gervase poured in 17 for Middletown South.

Junior Darius Martorano led Central with 17 points, with junior Nick Altieri adding 13 and senior Tom Ruscitti dropping 11 in the loss.

(2) No. 7 Manasquan 46, (15) Toms River South 20

Senior Ryan Flanagan scored 10 of his game-high 14 points in the first half and the Warriors (4-0) coasted to a first-round win over the Indians (0-4). Manasquan will play No. 7 seed Middletown South on Tuesday.

Sophomore Alex Galvan and junior Xander Korolik each contributed eight points to Manasquan's balanced scoring effort. Sophomore Jalen Folsom led Toms River South with nine points.

 

Girls WOBM Christmas Classic - Bracket

Opening Round

At Toms River North Gym

(6) Marlboro 47, (11) Toms River South 40

Junior Jessica Broad scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Mustangs past the Indians and into the WOBM quarterfinals. Junior Gisella Romeo added 10 points for Marlboro.

Junior Hannah Wagner led Toms River South with 13 points and senior Emily Donzatti added 11 in the loss.

(3) Ewing 66, (14) Point Boro 24

Senior Mya Grimes scored a game-high 26 points and the Blue Devils coasted to a win over the Panthers to set up a quarterfinal matchup with No. 6 Marlboro on Wednesday. Senior Kiyla Peterson added 13 points for Ewing.

Junior Analise Albarano led Point Boro with eight points.

(7) Wall 70, (10) Neptune 34

Senior Lauren Karabin scored 30 points to lead the Crimson Knights to their first win over the Scarlet Fliers since 2005.

Sophomore Makayla Andrews led Neptune with 16 points.

(2) Toms River North 52, (15) Central 10

Junior Jenna Paul scored 18 points and classmate Brielle Bisogno added 14 to lead the Mariners to a rout of the Golden Eagles. Toms River North will play Wall in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

At Toms River Athletic Arena

(5) Middletown South 58, (12) Toms River East 49

Junior Isla Brennan led four Middletown South players in double-figures with 14 points and the Eagles scored the final nine points of the game to escape with a win over the Raiders.

Sophomore Kayla Richardson added 13 points while junior Emily McCarthy and sophomore Stephanie Mayerhofer each poured in 11 in the win.

Junior Kamryn Lister led Toms River East with a game-high 21 points and sophomore teammate Jordyn Madigan poured in 18 with four three-pointers.

(13) Brick Memorial 54, (4) Donovan Catholic 52

Senior Shaunna Bruker scored a game-high 20 points and the Mustangs took control in the third quarter before holding on to knock off the Griffins in the WOBM first round. Brick Memorial will play No. 5 Middletown South in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Sophomore Jenna Schiessel added 15 points for Brick Memorial.

Senior Alyssa Hirschy led Donovan Catholic with 16 points and senior Molly Collins added 10 in the loss.

(8) Colts Neck 49, (9) Red Bank 20

Junior Catherine Gibson scored 12 points and senior Cara Volpe added 11 to lead the Cougars past the Bucs and into the WOBM quarterfinals.

Junior Meghan Murray led Red Bank with nine points.

(1) Manchester 64, (16) Sayreville 13

Junior Dakota Adams scored 17 points and freshman Destiny Adams added 10 to lead the top-seeded Hawks past the Bombers and into the quarterfinals Wednesday against No. 8 Colts Neck.
