Thrive Week 6 Boys Soccer Player of the Week

John Gambale, CBA

It takes an entire team to win a Shore Conference Tournament championship, particularly when one of the best players on the team is unable to play -- a challenge the Christian Brothers Academy soccer team faced during its pursuit of a third straight Shore Conference Tournament championship.

With senior midfielder Dimitry Corba sidelined due to a knee injury, CBA’s entire roster rose to the occasion. In the semifinals, it was the defense that stepped up in a 1-0 win over Middletown North. In the championship game, it was Gambale’s work rate and marksmanship on the outside that earned CBA its first goal of the match and set the tone for the remainder of a 2-0 win over Howell – a victory that clinched the Colts their third straight SCT title.

With his SCT championship goal, Gamable is now tied for third place on the CBA roster in total scoring with four goals and seven assists (15 points). That matches Corba for third, is just behind senior Lawrence Mancino (five goals, six assists) for second and trails team leader Dylan Millevoi (13 goals and three assists).

Gambale won last week's award with 36 percent of the vote, which beat out runner up Luke Montanile of Toms River North (25 percent) by 11 percent. Middletown North goalkeeper Landon Terrell came in third with 19 percent of the vote and Rumson-Fair Haven keeper Spencer Smith also cracked double-figures (11.5 percent).
