Thrive Week 3 Boys Soccer Player of the Week

Christian DeOliveira, CBA

Christian DeOliveira has been a central figure in one of the state's best defenses over each of the past two seasons and with senior teammate Lawrence Mancino pushing to defensive center midfield this season, DeOliveira is the only second-year starter on the CBA back line.

Even as a constant on the CBA back line, DeOliveira has still picked his spots to score goals an during the third week of the season, he was a scoring constant as well.

In the third week of the season, the senior back notched a goal in each of CBA’s three wins: a 5-0 SCT group win over Jackson Liberty, a 6-0 Class A North win over Freehold Township and a hard-earned 2-1 win over Toms River North.

In each of the lopsided wins over Jackson Liberty and Freehold, DeOliveria scored CBA's fourth goals, blowing open the two matches. Against Toms River North, things were much tighter and DeOliveira's goal off a corner kick in the 13th minute gave CBA a 1-0 lead. Toms River North broke up the shutout in the 75th minute, but the Colts held over the final five minutes to seal the victory.

DeOliveira won the Week 3 contest with 31.5 percent of the votes cast -- almost double the vote total of runner-ups Aidan Donnelly of Southern (16.8) and Jake Petillo of Wall (16.6). Donnelly beat out Petillo for second place by a single vote and Raritan's Sean Burnett came in fourth place with 13 percent.

As the latest Thrive Player of the Week, DeOliveira will receive a shirt and free training session courtesy of Thrive.
