Colonial Division

Manalapan 17, Barnegat 4

Junior midfielder Matt Avivi scored a career-high four goals while senior attackmen Michael Bonner and Christian Zdziarski each posted five points to send the Braves (1-0, 1-0) past the Bengals (1-1, 0-1) in their season opener.

Bonner had three goals and two assists and Zdziarski had two goals and three assists. Senior midfielder Marc Stefanelli also scored three times, senior defenseman Aidan Wilmot scored twice, senior attackman Anthony Macchio and freshman pole Nick Palmieri had a goal and an assist each, and Eli Greenberg scored once.

 

Nondivisional

Southern 16, Red Bank Catholic 4

Big games by junior Liam Griffin, senior midfielder Anthony Arch, senior attackman Konnor Forlai, and junior FOGO Collin Markoski powered the Rams (2-1) to a dominant win over the Caseys (2-1).

Griffin scored five goals while Arch and Forlai each tallied four goals and three assists. Markoski went 17-for-22 to control the face-off X and also dished out three assists. Freshman attackman Kyle Sininsky scored twice, freshman midfielder Cash McVey scored once, and junior Joe Kessler had two assists. Junior AJ Mattern (six saves) and freshman Nick Hughes (five saves) split time in goal.

Freshman midfielder Joe Egan recorded two goals and two assists and senior attackman Peter Villare supplied two goals and one assist for RBC. Senior defenseman Connor Harms picked up a game-high nine ground balls and senior goalie Gianvito Viola made 16 saves.

 

Nonconference

Rumson-Fair Haven 10, St. Augustine 9 (2OT)

Senior midfielder Leo Passalaqua scored three times, including the game-winning goal in double overtime, to lift the Bulldogs (3-0) to a thrilling win over the Hermits (1-2) in a matchup of state-ranked teams.

Rumson opened the season ranked No. 7 and St. Augustine No. 8 in the NJ.com Top 10.

Passalaqua finished with three goals and one assist, senior midfielder Andy Croddick had two goals and two assists, and junior goalie Mickey Walker made 10 saves. Junior midfielder Britt Lumsden scored twice, junior midfielder Grayson Goldin had a goal and an assist, and senior pole Troy Monte and senior midfielder Alastair Orr each scored once. Senior FOGO Luke Marascio had another strong game going 14-for-23 at the face-off X.

Rumson led 4-2 after the first quarter before St. Augustine took a 6-5 halftime lead and held an 8-7 lead into the fourth quarter.

Red Bank 10, Morristown 8

Senior midfielder Andrew Pape scored six goals and added two assists and senior Kyle Borenius made nine saves to lead the Bucs (2-1) past the Colonials (0-3).

Freshman Justin Valentino added two goals, sophomore attackman Gage Pape had a goal and an assist, and senior defenseman Matt Kelly scored once. Junior Lucas Fels chipped in with two assists and junior midfielder Will Ogden picked up a team-high five ground balls.

 

Howell 4, East Brunswick 3

Senior attackman Ian McDow posted a goal and an assist and junior goalie Adam Baker made six saves as the Rebels (1-1) won a defensive battle with the Bears (0-3) to pick up their first win of the season.

Junior midfielder Vin Meehan, senior attackman Jon Peal Pepe, and sophomore midfielder Cole Reinsdorf each scored once.

 

Scotch Plains-Fanwood 10, Wall 9 (OT)

 

Farmingdale (NY) 4, CBA 3 (OT)

Senior attackman Ryan Martin, junior midfielder Davis Campbell, and junior LSM Quinn Kelly scored goals and senior goalie Brandon DeSena made eight saves for the Colts (2-1) in their overtime loss to the Dalers (6-2).

 

Monroe 15, Marlboro 5

Junior attackmen Sam Shapiro and Shayne Gallo each had a goal and two assists to lead the Mustangs (1-2) in their loss to the Falcons (2-1). Junior midfielder Andrew Silvia, senior attackman Jason Sondak, and sophomore midfielder Mason Trombetta also had one goal each while freshman Brayden Gallo made 11 saves. Silvia also had a team-high nine ground balls, junior defenseman Tyler Gellis had seven ground balls, and junior goalie Jack Lichtenthal made two saves.
