Jersey Mikes Team of the Week for Week 1 of the Season is Southern Regional

Southern Regional had their best start to a season since 2019 by winning their first four games by double-digits, earning them the first Jersey Mikes Girl’s Basketball Team of the Week award of the 2023/2024 season. They were presented with a $150 Gift Card from our partners at “A Sub Above”.

The Rams clicked early under head coach Sean Sweeney, and this revival has stirred the pot in Class A South.

They opened the season defeating non-conference opponent Allentown 54-33 behind Casey Collins’ 27 points, which tied her career-high. Senior Skylar Soltis also posted a double-double, 14 points and 16 rebounds, after missing the majority of last season with an injury.

They followed that game with non-division victories over Freehold Boro and Central Regional. Collins led the team with 17 points and Soltis pulled down 13 rebounds against the Colonials. Junior Samantha Russell scored a career-high 13 points against Central Regional in the 54-31 victory.

In a battle with undefeated Class A South divisional foe Brick Memorial, Southern‘s defense was stout delivering a 54-30 victory. Southern vs Brick Memorial Southern had six players score 6 or more points with Soltis posting her second double-double of the season, 10 points and 16 rebounds. Senior Brielle Romano scored her career-high 10 points in this game.
