Week 6 Ocean County Sports Medicine Football Players of the Week: SSN picks, Fan vote, Divisional Selections
The Shore Sports Network Football Player of the Week feature is back for another week as we recognize the top performers on offense, defense, and special teams.
This year we will be expanding our Player of the Week offering beyond our usual voting system. The vote will still be present to determine the "fan selection" but now Shore Sports Network will select an overall Offensive, Defensive, and Special Teams Player of the Week for the entire conference, sponsored by Ocean County Sports Medicine. We will also select players of the week in those three categories for all seven divisions.
Below are our conference-wide Players of the Week picks along with links to the divisional players of the week and the fan vote. The poll will close at 12 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
Ocean County Sports Medicine Week 6 Overall Shore Conference Football Players of the Week
Jason Lajara, So., QB, Brick Memorial
Standout senior quarterback Connor Dietz gave way to Lajara during the Mustangs' 48-14 win over Freehold and the sophomore responded with a tremendous three-touchdown performance. Lajara completed 14 of 18 passes for 266 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 30 yards and a touchdown as the Mustangs' offense churned out an eye-opening 597 yards of offense. Brick Memorial clinched at least a share of the division title and improved to 7-0.
Mike Consolazio, Sr., LB, Marlboro
The Mustangs' defense was fantastic in an 11-2 victory over Jackson Memorial that clinched a share of the Freedom Division title, Marlboro's first since 1994, and Consolazio led the charge with two sacks and four tackles for loss to shut down Jackson's potent rushing attack. He also had a 2-point conversion reception on offense.
Jake Horowitz, Sr., K, Manalapan
Horowitz kicked a 35-yard field goal and converted his only extra point attempt during Manalapan's thrilling 24-23 victory over then-No. 4 and previously undefeated Point Boro.
