Week 8 Wrestler of the Week nominees (listed in alphabetical order)

Brandon Bayer, So., 113, Marlboro

Bayer’s 8-7 victory in double overtime in the final bout gave the Mustangs a 36-31 win over CBA.

 

David Hussey, Fr., 126, Middletown South

Hussey defeated district medalist Riley Simon to help the Eagles to a win over Point Beach, won by major decision over Manalapan’s Chris Balzano and won by technical fall in a match against Jefferson.

 

Ken Koenig, Sr., 195, Colts Neck

Koenig scored a 5-3 decision over Wall junior Jake Whitworth, a returning state qualifier, and also won by fall during the Cougars’ match with Middletown North.

 

Chris McCarthy, Sr., 145, Middletown North

McCarthy went 4-0 during the week with all four wins earning bonus points, including a major decision that helped the Lions defeat Colts Neck, 39-33, to clinch the Class B North division title.

 

Hector Santiago, Sr., 126, Freehold Township

Santiago’s 4-0 week included a 6-3 victory over Matawan junior and returning region qualifier Lee Rubin.

 

Scott Stevens, So., 285, Lacey

Stevens' only match of the week saw him earn a third-period pin over Pinelands’ Avery Maski, who was a top-five heavyweight in the Shore after finishing 5th/6th at the Shore Conference Tournament.

 

Justin Wright, Sr., 285, Howell

After winning the Shore Conference Tournament, Wright picked up another huge win by defeating Garfield’s Michael Alfonso, 3-2, in a matchup of state-ranked heavyweights.
