Week 5 Wrestler of the Week nominees (listed in alphabetical order)

Nick Ammirati, Sr., 113, Holmdel 

Ammirati became the fifth wrestler in program history to reach 100 career wins with a 5-0 week that included three pins and one major decision.

 

Ty Bailey, Sr., 160, Point Boro 

Bailey recorded his 100th career win during a week in which he went 4-0 with three pins. He is 19-1 on the season for the No. 8 Panthers.

 

Dom Brogna, So., Hwt, Donovan Catholic 

Brogna announced himself as a Shore Conference contender at 285 pounds when he defeated Ocean’s Joe Teresi, a returning state qualifier, 4-2, to help the Griffins knock off the Spartans. Brogna was 4-0 with three pins during the week.

 

Michael Conklin, Jr., 132, Toms River East 

A two-time state qualifier, Conklin came through with a huge win when he pinned Delsea’s Tim Spatola to propel the Raiders to a 34-33 win over the 5-time defending South Jersey Group 3 champion Crusaders. Spatola was 8th in the state last season at 145 pounds.

 

Al DeSantis, Sr., 145, Shore 

It was a big week on two fronts for DeSantis, who became Shore’s all-time wins leader with 135 wins and counting. Among his wins during the week was a 7-3 victory over Ocean’s Alex Poniros, a state medalist in 2018.

 

Eddie Hummel, Jr., 132, Southern

Hummel won the 138-pound title at the War on the Shore Tournament in Maryland as the No. 5 seed. He beat the No. 1 seed in the semifinals and was dominant in the final with a technical fall over the No. 3 seed. Hummel also won by fall during a match against Toms River North and is 17-0 on the season.

 

Ryan Rosenthal, Sr., 120, Toms River North

Rosenthal joined the 100-win club during a 3-0 week that was highlighted by a 3-0 decision over Southern’s Jayson Scerbo in a battle of returning state qualifiers. The win helped the Mariners knock off Southern, 28-26.
