Central Jersey Group II
(1) Rumson-Fair Haven 75, (2) Bound Brook 44 - Watch | Preview
Senior Scott Gyimesi scored 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead four Rumson players in double-figure scoring and the Bulldogs (21-3) completed a dominant four-game run by routing the Crusaders (22-5) to capture the program's third sectional championship in six years and fourth overall.
Senior Cal Famula added 16 points, senior Owen Sullivan poured in 15 and senior Geoff Schroeder pitched in 11 for Rumson-Fair Haven, which blew the game open with a 10-0 start to the third quarter, stretching the lead from 14 to 24, 43-19.
Rumson shut down Bound Brook's top two options in junior Jordan Summers (21.5 points, 13.7 rebounds heading into the game) and senior Quadir Harrell (14.9 points and 6.9 assists). Summers finished with seven points after going scoreless in the first half and Harrell finished with 10.
While the Bulldogs now have three sectional titles in six years, they have never been to a Group II final and getting there this season would mean pulling off the upset of the season in New Jersey. Nationally-ranked Camden awaits Rumson in Wednesday's Group II semifinal in Egg Harbor, which will tip off at 5 p.m.
