Beast of the East (University of Delaware)

Brick Memorial, Donovan Catholic, Howell, Jackson Liberty, Middletown South, Rumson-Faur Haven, St. John Vianney

Saturday recap: St. John Vianney's Patrick O'Keefe (113), Anthony Knox (120) and Jasiah Queen (165), Middletown South's Jack Zaleski (132), Brick Memorial's Harvey Ludington (175), and Rumson-Fair Haven's Hudson Skove (215) all advanced to Sunday's quarterfinal round.

Still alive in the consolation brackets are Howell's Xavier Ortega (120), Sebastian Ortega (126) and DJ Henry (190), Middletown South's David Hussey (165), and St. John Vianney's Matt Gould (106) and Jake Zaltsman (126).

 

Caldwell Tournament

Rumson-Fair Haven finished third with Declan Fry (106), Julian DuQue (125), and Connor Delaney winning individual titles. Nick Costello finished second at 157 and Walker Skove (132) and Evan Ridgeway (144) placed third.

Freehold finished fourth with Angelo Messina claiming the 138-pound title to lead the way. Michael Connelley was second at 144 and Sam Sheridan (113) and Andrew Fata (157) placed third.

Barnegat won the team championship

 

Gateway Gator Invitational

Red Bank's Kevin Ruland took out the No. 1 seed en route to claiming the 113-pound title and leading the Bucs to a fourth-place finish. Dom Sena (120), Gavin Lisko (150), and Tyler Palumbo (190) placed second and Jason Huss (132) finished third.

Robin Leff Invitational

Host Southern Regional rolled to the team title with five individual champions, four runners-up, and four third-place finishers.

Connor Collins (132), Wyatt Stout (138), Matt Henrich (150), Nick Bennet (157), and Cole Velardi (165) placed first to lead the way for the Rams. Collins defeated 2020 state medalist Jack Bastarrika of Mount Olive, 5-2, in the final. Bennet won by a 5-2 decision over Point Boro's Jack Thomspon, who was a WB-4 finisher in the state tournament last season.

Attila Vigilante (120), Scottie Sari (126), Hayden Hochstrasser (144), and Riley O'Bolye (215) placed second, and Anthony Mason (106). David Ferrante (120), Collin French (190), and Anthony Evangelista (285) placed third.

Jackson Memorial's Ryan Fischer won the 285-pound title by defeating Southern's Anthony Evangelista in the semifinals and Delsea's Rocco Bennett in the final, both of whom were state qualifiers last season. Jason Seda (106) and Cael Huxford (150) finished second and Luke Hamann (175) placed third.

Point Boro's Joey DeAngelo secured the 106-pound title, Jack Thompson was second at 157, and Frankie Burgio was third at 113.

Red Bank Catholic's Frankie Romeo placed third at 165 pounds.

 

Ron Mazzola Memorial Tournament (Old Bridge)

Raritan won the team title behind individual championships from Nick Sheldrick (106), Ryan Mansueto (126), Alex Delaurier (132), Zach Reilley (138), Braden Kmak (144), Logan Acevedo (150), and Kieran Falzon (190). Aidan Davis (113), Matt Erven (120), Bobby Mulligan (165), and Stephen Moser (175) each placed third.

Ricky Gomez (113) and Colin Palumbo (165) won individual titles for Matawan, which finished fourth as a team. Toms River East's James Lynch (215) also captured an individual title.

 

Wendy Pandy-Leh Tournament (Delaware Valley)

Wall's Donovan DiStefano (150), Michael DiBiase (106), and Keisun Sanders (285) won individual titles and Ocean's Boomer Volek won the 132-pound championship.

Ocean's Michael Poniros (165) and Wall's Will Kinsella (157) placed second and Ocean's Steven Perez (126) finished third.

 

John and Betty Vogeding Tournament (Paulsboro)

Mason Hultman (106), JJ Machnik (138), and Thomas Richard (285) placed second for Howell, which split its squad between this tournament and the Beast of the East.
