Class A North

No. 4 Freehold Twp. 4, Manalapan 0

Senior Herman Colbert scored a goal in each half and the Patriots (1-0, 1-0) blanked the Braves (0-1, 0-1) in the season-opener for both teams following Thursday's rainout.

Freehold Township jumped on top with an own goal in the eighth minute before Colbert pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 30th off a feed from senior J.T. Gold.

Colbert scored again in the 62nd off a pass from senior Christian Mojares and junior Kyle Chaflin capped the scoring in the 77th off a pass from senior Ryan Keegan.

 

Class B North

Manasquan 2, Freehold Boro 1

Junior Aidan Sugrue flicked home the game-winning goal in the 78th minute off a feed from sophomore Luke Roy and the Warriors (2-0, 2-0) pulled out another tight win early in the season, this time over the Colonials (0-1, 0-1) in Freehold Boro's season-opener.

The two teams traded goals a minute apart in the 63rd and 64th minutes, with Manasquan striking first on a header by senior Mike Cafiero off a cross from junior Matt Karolak.

The Colonials came right back with an answer when senior Tharnthong Phua ran down a pass from senior Jonathan Lopez and slid it across to junior Colin Wozniak for the equalizing finish.

 

Class B Central

Henry Hudson 5, Keyport 4

Senior Elvis Gonzalez pumped in a hat trick and assisted another goal to lead the Admirals (1-1, 1-1) to a wild win over the Red Raiders (0-2, 0-2).

Hayden Kurdes added a goal and two assists for Henry Hudson while freshman Leo Koernig pitched in a goal and an assist in the win.

Senior Josh Wenzel was one of four different goal-scorers for Keyport and also added an assist to help lead the way. Freshman Brayan Rodriguez and sophomores Edwin Prudente and Nico Natale each added a goal for the Red Raiders and Christian Oldhafer finished with two assists.

Non-Division

Jackson Liberty 1, No. 9 Jackson Memorial 0

Junior Gerard Cerino scored the game-winning goal in the 70th minute and the Lions (2-0) beat the Jaguars (0-1-1) for the first time in program history.

The rivalry game was on hold from 2012 to 2017 before it began again in 2018, with Jackson Memorial winning the last two meetings by a combined score of 13-0. The two Jackson teams did not meet in 2020 due to a shortened schedule amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lacey 2, Toms River South 1 (OT)

Senior Connor Bencik scored the golden goal with a little more than two minutes left in the second overtime period and the Lions (1-0) tripped up the Indians (1-1) in their season-opener. Bencik finished the winning goal off a corner kick by senior Dillon Raparelli.

Junior Logan Gross scored the first Lacey goal, which came on a penalty kick in the 10th minute. Toms River South pulled even in the 22nd on a 20-yard strike from junior Jon Fitzgerald.

Neptune 4, Lakewood 1

Junior Aidan MacAnee scored two of Neptune's four first-half goals and the Scarlet Fliers (1-1) rolled to a win over the Piners (0-1).

MacAnee helped Neptune jump out to a 1-0 lead in the second minute and made the score 3-0 with his second goal in the 15th.

Junior Ernst Louisius scored in the 10th to extend the lead to 2-0 and sophomore Kervens Lafortune made it 4-0 with a goal in the final minute of the first half.

Senior Fernando Osorio broke up the shutout with a goal in the 56th minute for Lakewood.

No. 7 Toms River East 2, Pinelands 1

Toms River East cracked open the scoring with an own goal in the 50th minute and junior Kajus Matazinskas added what proved to be the game-winner in the 61st as the Raiders (1-1) held off the Wildcats (1-1).

Pinelands pulled to within a goal in the 76th, when senior Stephen DeMilio converted a penalty kick.

Ranney 5, Manchester 4 (OT)

Ranney scored the golden goal on an own goal off a throw-in during the first overtime and the Panthers (2-0) picked up a back-and-forth win over the Hawks (0-2).

Seniors Tommy Boyan and Charlie McCann each scored two goals for Ranney, with Boyan converting a go-ahead penalty kick to put the Panthers ahead, 4-3.

Junior Muberaq Aderogba tied the game in the 66th minute off a feed from classmate Owen Edwards - the second of two goals in the game for Aderogba and the last of three assists for Edwards.

Edwards also notched a goal for Manchester and sophomore Joey Kurak scored the other goal for the Hawks.
