Class A North

No. 3 Marlboro 72, Freehold Twp. 61

Seniors Jack Seidler and Jon Spatola combined for 19 of their 42 collective points in the fourth quarter and the Mustangs stormed back from a 10-point deficit with 5:40 left to deny the Patriots a road upset.

Freehold Township led, 56-46, with under six minutes to go in the game when Marlboro finally came to life. Seidler converted a three-point play and Spatola followed with a three-pointer to quickly cut the deficit to four. Spatola then hit a pullup jumper and Seidler tied the game on a putback.

Senior Vin Spatola capped a 14-0 lead and gave Marlboro the lead for good by converting a four-point play with 2:47 left, putting Marlboro ahead, 60-56.

Spatola hit a three and an acrobatic layup to cap his 10-point fourth quarter and Seidler went 5-for-5 from the foul line for the bulk of his nine fourth-quarter points. Spatola finished with 12 points, while seniors Jay Ratner and Zach Molod each chipped in nine.

Junior Jayden Holmes-Cotter poured in a game-high 23 points to lead Freehold Township, which overcame a 36-22 lead late in the second quarter with a 34-10 during a 16-minute span of the second, third and fourth quarters. Senior Josh Ibarreta also scored 15 points and senior Sean Keegan poured in 10 in a losing cause.

Manalapan 79, Middletown South 62

Senior Gabe Blackwell put up 23 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks and the Braves ran away with a win over the Eagles.

Senior Mike Cerreto added 17 points and fellow senior chipped in 12 points for Manalapan.

Junior Dylan Csik led Middletown South with a game-high 25 points.

 

Class A Central

No. 9 Raritan 59, Matawan 38

Junior Jack Coleman led four Raritan players in double-figure scoring with 13 points and the Rockets bounced back from a Monday loss at Jackson Memorial by beating the Huskies.

Senior Tyzaya Smith and junior Jack O'Leary each added 12 points and senior Justin Rivera poured in 11 for Raritan.

Freshman Chauncy Brown and Amir Martinez each scored 11 points to lead Matawan.

No. 7 Rumson-Fair Haven 56, Shore 33

Senior Scott Gymesi racked up 26 points and 15 rebounds to carry the Bulldogs to a win over the Blue Devils. Senior Geoff Schroeder also made his season debut by scoring two points in three minutes while returning from a sprained ankle.

Sophomore Alex George led Shore with seven points.

 

Class A South

Brick Memorial 47, Southern 36

Senior Luke Braaten scored 13 points to go with 15 rebounds and junior Dorian Alston added 11 as the Mustangs turned in a strong second half to erase a two-point halftime deficit and upend the Rams on the road.

Senior Nick Devane led Southern with 12 points and three assists and classmate Jaden Anthony chipped in 11 points and four assists.

Jackson Memorial 74, Toms River South 42

Junior Keith Adame scored a game-high 17 points behind five three-pointers and the Jaguars topped the Indians in a rout.

Senior Steven Bado and junior Samir Padilla each added 13 points for Jackson Memorial, with Padilla also collecting five steals. Junior Respect Tyleek also added eight points and seven assists, while junior Charlie Meglio contributed six points and nine rebounds in the win.

Senior Gavin Migliori led Toms River South with 12 points on four three-pointers.

 

Class B North

Middletown North 64, Freehold Boro 33

Senior Tommy Giannone scored 19 points to go with seven rebounds and three assists as the Lions rolled to a win over the Colonials, despite not attempting a free throw in the game.

Senior Matt Kenny added 12 points, six rebounds and four assists, while junior Zac Searight and senior Brian Haddow each chipped in eight points for Middletown North.

Sophomore Christian DiGiso led Freehold Boro with 11 points.

Neptune 47, Colts Neck 42

Senior Jahmil Miranda scored a team-high 13 points and hit three free throws with under 30 seconds left to break a tie as the Scarlet Fliers outlasted the Cougars on the road.

Junior Jason Neal also added 10 points for Neptune, which overcame a 17-9 start to the game by Colts Neck to pull within one point by halftime, 24-23.

Junior Will Surdez scored a game-high 19 points to lead Colts Neck and sophomore Michael Belcher added 11 in the loss.

No. 5 St. John Vianney 68, Red Bank 59

Senior Nate Williams scored 24 points to go with five steals and senior Omar Calderon contributed 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Lancers held off the Bucs for a B North road win.

Senior Justice Brayboy and junior Jordan Winnik each added eight points for St. John Vianney.

Junior Nick Valentino led Red Bank with 23 points and classmate Collin Teter added 18 in the loss.

 

Class B Central

Keansburg 58, Henry Hudson 35

Junior Mike Alonso scored a game-high 20 points and the Titans trounced the Admirals.

Senior Andrew Valle added 14 points and junior Jaheim Hill contributed 10 for Keansburg.

Senior Demitrius Harvey and junior Jax Ross each scored 10 points to lead Henry Hudson.

Mater Dei Prep 60, Asbury Park 55

Senior Anthony Tancredi scored 10 of his team-high 15 points in the fourth quarter and also grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Seraphs to a road win over the Blue Bishops.

Senior Gerard Novello scored 10 of his 14 points in the third quarter while senior Jayden Cabrera chipped in 11 points for Mater Dei Prep.

Junior Davon Foster led Asbury Park with a game-high 26 points and classmate Sha'born Goodman added 14 in the loss.

Keyport 64, Point Beach 59

Senior D.J. Thomson scored 26 points, including two big buckets in the final 1:30 to help the Red Raiders escape with a win over the Garnet Gulls.

Thomson drove for the game-tying basket that put Keyport ahead, 58-56, with 1:30 left and junior Zyaire Treadwell scored off a turnover and pass up ahead from classmate Max Judson with just over a minute left to make it 60-56.

With Keyport up, 62-59, under 10 seconds to go, and Point Beach trying to foul, Thomson converted a layup as he was fouled with one second left to seal the win.

Keyport's Anthony Longo added 10 points, while his Point Beach counterpart -- also Anthony Longo -- led Point Beach with 19 points.

Junior Kevin Burns added 10 points and seniors Andrew Laumbach and Andrew Seaman each scored nine for Point Beach.

 

Class B South

Pinelands 60, Lakewood 44

Senior Daniel McCarthy scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Wildcats to a win over the Piners.

Senior Rian O'Rourke added 20 points, senior Darren Barreau chipped in eight points and seven assists and senior Aiden Skeie finished with six points and eight rebounds.

Junior Derrick Marsh led Lakewood with 18 points.

No. 8 Manchester 73, Lacey 52

Senior D'Maari Brown scored a game-high 25 points with five three-pointers and classmate Savon Myers posted a triple-double with 23 points, 16 rebounds and a school-record 11 steals to lead the Hawks to a win over the Lions. Brown and Myers also handed out five assists apiece.

Senior guard and Donovan Catholic transfer Amari Ayala-Petty made his debut for Manchester and contributed seven points, nine assists and five steals in the win.

Junior Chris Venturoso led Lacey with a game-high 27 points and sophomore Logan Brash added 12 in the loss.

Brick 44, Barnegat 43

Senior Giuseppi Johnson knocked down two free throws with no time on the clock and the Green Dragons pulled out a win over the Bengals.

Senior Rob Giovine led Brick with 12 points, junior Alex Jenkoski posted 10 points and six rebounds and junior Steve Novak chipped in nine points and five rebounds.

 

Class C North

Jackson Liberty 39, Ocean 32

Senior Phanique Dupree led a balanced scoring effort with 10 points and the Lions battled past the Spartans.

Ocean freshman Ron Richardson led all scorers with 11 points.

Point Boro 73, Monmouth 51

Senior Matt Lee scored a game-high 19 points and the Panthers pulled away for a win over the Falcons.

Junior Stephen Mellett poured in 18 points and classmate Colton MacGlashan added 14 for Point Boro.

Senior Kevin Telesford led Monmouth with 16 points and classmate Aiden Denton poured in 15 in the loss.

No. 6 Manasquan 60, St. Rose 31

Freshman Darius Adams poured in 22 points and the Warriors coasted to a win over the Purple Rose.

 

Non-Division

Donovan Catholic 55, No. 10 Central 53

Senior Vin Coburn led a balanced offensive effort with 11 points and the Griffins upended the Golden Eagles, snapping Central's seven-game winning streak and spoiling a milestone night for Central senior Justin Soranno.

Senior Jalin Butler added 10 points, senior Dan Schwartz poured in nine and senior Alex Melon netted eight for Donovan Catholic.

Soranno finished with 26 points, including the 1,000th of his career on his first basket of the game. Junior Miles Chevalier also scored 18 points in the loss.
