Keyport 63, Mater Dei Prep 53

Senior George Mitchell scored 23 points and the Red Raiders (2-0, 2-0) picked up a momentous win over the Seraphs (1-2, 1-1) on the road.

Senior D.J. Thomson and junior Max Judson each poured in 20 points for Keyport, which ended a 14-game losing streak to Mater Dei Prep that extended back to the 2013-14 season.

During that span, Mater Dei has won two Shore Conference Tournament championships and finished ranked in the Shore Sports Network Top 10 four times since 2015-16 -- including No. 1 in both 2015-16 and 2016-17 and No. 2 in 2017-18.

 

Non-Division

Donovan Catholic 46, Long Branch 28

Senior Kyree Drake scored a career-high 11 points and the Griffins (3-1) authored a big third quarter to pull away with a win over the Green Wave (0-3).

Seniors Jalin Butler and Dylan Orosz each added nine points for Donovan Catholic, which blew up open the game with a 20-8 run over the duration of the third quarter to build up a 38-20 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Junior Bruce Gooding led Long Branch with eight points.

Shore 51, Freehold Boro 34

Sophomore Alex George scored 21 points to go with eight rebounds and four blocks in leading the Blue Devils (2-1) to a one-sided win over the Colonials (0-3).

Junior Richie Studer added 12 points and classmate Donovan Hughes chipped in eight for Shore.

Brick 38, Ocean 34

Junior Alex Jenkoski converted a go-ahead three-point play off a steal with 50 seconds left and capped the game at the free throw line over the 40 seconds to complete a furious comeback for the Green Dragons (2-1) over the Spartans (1-2).

Jenkoski scored 20 points to lead Brick back from a 17-point deficit, while classmate Steven Novak added 10 points, six rebounds and four assists in the win.

Freshmen Zyier Dean and Ron Richardson each scored 12 points to lead Ocean.

Point Boro 60, Matawan 36

Senior Colton MacGlashan and junior Stephen Mellett each scored 13 points and the Panthers (2-0) coasted to a win over the Huskies (0-3).

Senior Matt Lee added nine points and classmate Kai Messeroll chipped in eight for Point Boro.

Senior Kyle Haliburton led Matawan with 11 points.

No. 4 Rumson-Fair Haven 73, Red Bank 68

Senior Owen Sullivan scored a team-high 15 points and handed out five assists as the Bulldogs (2-0) used a 14-0 tear at the start of the fourth quarter to rally past the rivals Bucs (1-2).

Sullivan was one of five Rumson players to score in double-figures, with senior Scott Gyimesi posting 14 points and 13 rebounds and junior Mason Yablonski also scoring 14 points. Senior Cal Famula poured in 11 points and fellow senior Trent Sloan chipped in 10 for Rumson.

Junior Nick Valentino led Red Bank with a game-high 19 points and senior Brian Tobin drained six three-pointers to account for his 18 points. Junior Collin Teter also netted 12 points for the Bucs, which took a 56-48 lead into the fourth quarter.
