Class A Central

Holmdel 60, Shore 57

Sophomore Ben Kipnis drilled a tiebreaking three-pointer with three seconds left and the Hornets (5-3, 2-0) won a thriller over the Blue Devils (3-4, 0-2).

Kipnis finished with a team-high 19 points and also made a key defensive play that helped the Hornets tie the game. The sophomore guard came up with a steal near midcourt and freshman Evan Romano finished the break to tie the game at 57-57 with 18 seconds left. Shore then missed a pair of free throws to set up the finish.

Sophomore Nick Seeloch added 14 points and Romano poured in 12 for Holmdel.

Junior Liam Gajewski led Shore with a game-high 21 points and sophomore Alex George chipped in 18 in the loss.

 

Class A South

No. 9 Brick Memorial 49, No. 10 Jackson Memorial 48

Junior Brian Starrett hit the winning free throws with 0.1 second left on the clock and the Mustangs (3-2, 2-0) pulled out a big Class A South road win over the Jaguars (3-3, 2-1).

Starrett finished with six points and five assists and earned the deciding trip to the line when he was fouled on a three-point attempt with 0.1 showing on the clock. Junior Josh Michigan led Brick Memorial with 22 points, while senior Luke Braaten contributed 13 points, 17 rebounds and two blocks for the Mustangs.

 

Class B Central

Keyport 78, Henry Hudson 43

Senior D.J. Thomson pumped in 35 points and the Red Raiders (5-0, 4-0) rolled to a win over the Admirals (1-4, 0-2). Senior George Mitchell chipped in 14 points and classmate Anthony Longo added 10 for Keyport.

Senior Demitrius Harvey led Henry Hudson with 11 points and junior Jax Ross added 10 in the loss.

 

Class C North

Monmouth 38, Jackson Liberty 31

Senior Aiden Denton scored 10 points and grabbed six boards while junior Ta'haj Wiggins added nine points, seven rebounds and four blocks to help the Falcons (3-3, 1-1) upend the Lions (4-2, 0-2).

At Brookdale Community College

No. 2 Red Bank Catholic 46, No. 1 Marlboro 40

Sophomore Colin Cavanaugh scored all 10 of his team-high points in the first quarter and senior Alex Bauman nabbed MVP honors with eight points, seven rebounds and five assists as the Caseys (8-1) exacted revenge over the Mustangs (7-2) after losing to Marlboro in the WOBM Christmas Classic.

RBC led, 37-32, with under three minutes to go when sophomore Gioacchino Panzini stole the ball under his team's own basket and Cavanaugh drained a three-pointer on the other end. After a Marlboro miss, Cavanaugh finished a layup off a look-ahead from Bauman to stretch the Red Bank Catholic lead to 10.

Senior Jack Seidler led Marlboro with 17 points and five rebounds before fouling out with 1:22 left.

No. 3 CBA 53, No. 6 St. John Vianney 47

Senior Pat Lautato scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds to help spark the Colts (8-0) to their eight straight win to open the season, this time topping the Lancers (8-2) at Brookdale.

Lautato scored 13 points in the first half, while sophomore Peter Noble and freshman Justin Fuerbacher each chipped in eight points for CBA.

Senior Nate Williams carried St. John Vianney with a game-high 28 points and also grabbed six rebounds, dished out five assists and picked off three steals.

No. 7 Manasquan 56, St. Joseph Metuchen 47

Freshman Darius Adams scored a game-high 20 points and the Warriors (6-2) jumped on top early and held off the Falcons (3-2) to score a win over the No. 11 team in the state, according to NJ Advance Media.

Senior Matt Solomon and sophomore Alex Konov each added nine points, with Solomon also posting 10 rebounds.

 

Non-Division

Colts Neck 48, Matawan 39

Junior Will Surdez scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Cougars (3-3) to a win over the Huskies (0-8).

Junior Colin Haluska scored 16 points to lead Matawan.

Neptune 39, Toms River North 35

Senior Dan Moran led a balanced scoring effort with 11 points and junior Davionne Pearson  added 10 to spark the Scarlet Fliers (1-3) to a win over the Mariners (2-5).

Middletown South 77, Lacey 48

Senior Tom Schorck scored 20 points and the Eagles (2-4) pulled away for a one-sided win over the Lions (4-4).

Junior Dylan Csik added 17 points and senior James Mayerhofer chipped in 14 for Middletown South.

Junior Chris Venturoso led Lacey with a game-high 25 points and classmate Dylan Hall chipped in 12 in the loss.

 

Non-Conference

Westfield 70, Middletown North 39

Sean Logan pulled off a triple-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 11 blocks to lead the Blue Devils (5-3) to a rout of the Lions (3-3).

Toms River South 63, Academy Charter 41

Senior Gavin Migliori put up 28 points, three assists and eight steals to spark the Indians (2-3) to a win over Academy Charter.

Edison 57, Freehold Boro 43

Sophomore Christian DiGiso scored 11 points to go with three assists and freshman Brian Tassey added 10 points and seven blocks, but the Colonials (0-7) fell to the Eagles (4-3) on the road.

Senior Jaden Anthony scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds but the Rams (2-5) came up short in their comeback attempt against the Tigers (3-5).
