Lacey 54, Freehold Boro 52 (OT)

Junior Troy Buxton put back his own miss with 12 seconds left to break a 52-52 tie and give the Lions (1-1) an overtime win on the road against the Colonials (0-2).

Buxton finished with nine points and combined with classmates Chris Venturoso and Dylan Hall to score 50 of the 54 Lacey points. Venturoso scored a game-high 25 and Hall added 16, including a big, game-tying three-pointer with under two minutes to go in overtime.

Senior Timmy Springer led Freehold Boro with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while sophomore Will Hon also put up a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Brian Tassey scored 11 points as well and also blocked five shots.

Howell 69, Montgomery 60 (Watch)

Senior Dylan McVeigh scored 23 points and defended Army commit Ryan Curry to help lead the Rebels (1-0) to a win over the Cougars (1-1) in their season-opener.

Senior Zach Emery added 19 points and went 6-for-8 from the free-throw line in the final minutes to help Howell ward off a late surge by Montgomery, which cut a 15-point deficit with seven minutes to go down to five with two to play.

McVeigh and Emery also combined for seven three-pointers, with McVeigh sinking four and Emery nailing three.

Senior Joe Dupuis posed 12 points, six rebounds and four assists before fouling out and junior Damien Padilla chipped in nine points and 10 rebounds off the bench for Howell.

Paterson Eastside 45, Neptune 24

Junior Jason Neal scored a team-high nine points as the Scarlet Fliers (0-1) opened their season with a road loss to the Ghosts (1-1).

Don Bosco 83, Mater Dei Prep 41

Sophomore Dylan Harper scored 9 of his 14 points during a 24-2 Don Bosco first quarter and the Ironmen (1-0) hammered the Seraphs (0-1) with 14 players scoring at least a point.

Senior Gerard Novello led Mater Dei with 15 points and senior Anthony Tancredi added 13 in the loss.

Rutgers Prep 71, No. 5 Manasquan 51

Sophomore Ryan Frauenheim equaled a game-high 20 points, but Jadin Collins countered with 20 of his own as part of an Argonauts (2-0) win over the Warriors (0-1), snapping Manasquan's 33-game winning streak.

Cam Piggie added 16 points behind four three-pointers and Ryan Zan -- who played at Ranney during his sophomore and junior seasons -- chipped in 14 points and 12 rebounds for Rutgers Prep, which pulled away with a 12-1 run to close the second half and led, 36-17, heading to the locker room.

Freshman Darius Adams and sophomore Alex Konov each scored seven points for Manasquan.
