Class A South

Brick Memorial 80, Toms River South 33

Junior Josh Michigan scored 23 of his career-high 32 points in the first half and the Mustangs (2-0) stormed past the Indians (1-2).

Senior Luke Braaten added 18 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks for Brick Memorial, junior Dorian Alston put up eight points, while fellow junior Brian Starrett had six points and 12 assists in the win.

Senior Gavin Migliori led Toms River South with 16.

Jackson Memorial 54, Toms River East 30

Junior Respect Tyleek scored 13 points and junior Charlie Meglio added 12 as the Jaguars (3-0) topped the Raiders (0-3) to give coach Randy Holmes his 300th career win.

Junior Samir Padilla pitched in nine points for Jackson Memorial and junior Dylan Russell led Toms River East with eight points.

 

Class B South

Donovan Catholic 45, Brick 29

Senior Kyree Drake led a balanced scoring effort with 12 points and the Griffins (2-1) shut down the Green Dragons (1-1) in the first half on the way to a win.

Senior Dan Schwartz added 10 points and senior Dylan Orosz poured in nine for Donovan Catholic, which took a 31-7 lead into the halftime locker room.

Senior Jack Dougard led Brick with six points.

Barnegat 79, Lakewood 53

Freshman Johnnel Johnson led five Barnegat players in double-figures with 17 points and the Bengals (1-1) coasted to a win over the Piners (0-2).

Junior Shikeith Gordon poured in 14 points and junior JoJo Bivens, junior Gabe Terry and freshman Mason Krey all scored 13 points apiece for Barnegat.

Junior Derrick Marsh scored 18 points to lead Lakewood.

Pinelands 50, Lacey 48

Senior Justin Barreau stole the ball with the final seconds of regulation ticking away, raced it up court and scored the winning layup with 1.9 seconds left to complete an improbable, comeback win for the Wildcats (2-0) over the Lions (1-2).

Lacey raced out to a 26-10 lead through the end of the first quarter and did not trail at all until Barraeu's last-second heroics. Barreau finished with six points, six rebounds and two steals.

Senior Rian O'Rourke also played a key role in the comeback, scoring a game-high 20 points on six three-pointers and grabbing six rebounds. Seniors Daniel McCarthy and Aiden Skeie pitched in 10 points apiece, with McCarthy also contributing six rebounds and five assists in the win.

Junior Troy Buxton led Lacey with 16 points and four assists. Junior Ryan Fitzgerald added 10 points, junior Chris Venturoso had nine and senior Mike Abode chipped in six points and 11 rebounds.

 

Class C North

Ocean 52, Wall 35

Freshman Zayier Dean scored a game-high 16 points and the Spartans (1-1) topped the Crimson Knights (0-3) for their first win of the season.

Senior Justin McMahon added 12 points for Ocean and freshman Ron Richardson chipped in 10 in the win.

Senior Chris Mitchell led Wall with 13 points.

St. Rose 53, Jackson Liberty 43

Senior Luke Farrell scored 15 points to go with 11 rebounds and classmate Nick DiNatale chipped in 14 points to pace the Purple Roses (1-1) to a win over the Lions (1-1) -- the first win in the high-school head-coaching career of first-year coach Brian Lynch.

Senior Colin Westhoven also contributed nine points, including six in the final two minutes to help put the game away.

Senior Channing Williams led Jackson Liberty with 11 points, while senior Phanique Dupree added 10 points, five rebounds and four blocks. Senior Dallas Weisse and sophomore Dylan Teopaco each added nine points in the loss.
