Class A North

No. 3 Marlboro 72, Howell 39

Seniors Jack Seidler and Jon Spatola combined for 49 points, including 28 of Marlboro's 32 during the third quarter as the Mustangs (8-2, 3-1) erupted after halftime to pull away from the Rebels (4-3, 1-2).

Seidler finished with a game-high 27 points, including 13 in the third, while Spatola went off for 15 of his 22 during the quarter. Marlboro outscored Howell, 32-9, in the third to balloon the lead from 29-21 at the half to 61-30.

Senior Zach Emery led Howell with 13 points, all coming in the first half.

 

Class A South

Toms River South 54, Toms River East 53

Senior Gavin Migliori buried the game-winning three-pointer as time expired and the Indians (3-3, 1-1) beat the Raiders (2-6, 1-2) in a thriller between the crosstown rivals.

Migliori finished with a team-high 18 points while senior Bobby Kufka and junior Easton Slack each added 10 for Toms River South, with Kufka pulling in 10 rebounds as well.

Senior Dylan Russell led Toms River East with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore Jason McKelvey chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds for the Raiders.

Junior Jacob Mathus added nine points and six assists and also hit the go-ahead basket with six seconds left before Migliori and Toms River South snatched the win away from Toms River East at the buzzer.

Central 60, Jackson Memorial 55

Senior Justin Soranno scored 20 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked three shots to lead the Golden Eagles (6-2, 2-1) to a payback win over the Jaguars (3-4, 2-2), who beat Central in the WOBM Christmas Classic first round on Dec. 19.

Junior John Truhan added 12 points and six assists for Central, which saw a 12-point lead late in the third quarter shrink to one before putting the game away late on the defensive end and the free-throw line.

Junior Samir Padilla led Jackson Memorial with 19 points and senior Steven Bado added 11 in the loss.

 

Class B North

Colts Neck 51, Freehold Boro 48

Junior Will Surdez scored a game-high 22 points and the Cougars (4-3, 1-1) battled past the Colonials (0-8, 0-2) to earn a hard-fought divisional win.

Sophomore Christian DiGiso led Freehold Boro with 18 points and senior Joe Caleo added 11 in the loss.

 

Class B South

No. 8 Manchester 47, Brick 36

Senior Savon Myers scored 15 points and classmate D'Maari Brown added 12 as the Hawks (5-2, 2-0) opened up a commanding lead through three quarters and settled for an 11-point win over the Green Dragons (3-5, 0-3).

Junior Alex Jenkoski led Brick with 13 points.

Donovan Catholic 37, Pinelands 32

Senior Vin Coburn scored seven points and the Griffins (4-3, 2-1) got steady contributions across the board to lead the Griffins past the Wildcats (2-0, 1-1).

Senior Darren Barreau led Pinelands with a game-high 15 points.

 

Class C Central

Monmouth 53, St. Rose 51

Senior Aiden Denton scored 15 of his 23 points in the second half and the Falcons (4-3, 2-1) clipped the Purple Roses (2-3, 1-1) for their third straight win.

Senior Gerald Wiggins added eight points and junior Ta'haj Wiggins chipped in seven rebounds, six rebounds and two blocks for Monmouth.

Senior Luke Farrell scored 15 points to lead St. Rose, while senior Chris Tallarico added 12 and senior Nick DiNatale chipped in 11 in the loss.

Point Boro 55, Ocean 30

Junior Stephen Mellett scored 13 points and senior Matt Lee poured in 11 to lead a balanced effort for the Panthers (6-1, 2-1) in a win over the Spartans (1-5, 1-1).

 

Non-Conference

Raritan 54, New Egypt 47

Junior Jack O'Leary scored 15 points and the Rockets (4-1) got past the Warriors (2-2). Senior Justin Rivera added 10 points and junior Lucas LaVilla and senior Jason Trotta each chipped in eight points for Raritan.

Varsity Customs Holiday Showcase

At the Prudential Center, Newark

Xaverian (N.Y.) 74, Mater Dei Prep 48

Seniors Derek Ragona and Jayden Cabrera each scored 13 points but the Seraphs (1-5) could not keep up with Xavier out of Brooklyn -- alma mater of Chris Mullin, who was coached at Xaverian by current Colts Neck head coach Lou Piccola.
