The first round of all eight NJSIAA region wrestling tournaments originally scheduled to begin on Wednesday have been postponed to Thursday because of the winter storm scheduled to hit New Jersey, the NJSIAA announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The Region 7 pre-quarterfinals have been moved to Toms River East because the Shore Conference Tournament boys basketball semifinals will be taking place at RWJ Barnabas Health Arena at Toms River North. The Region 7 tournament will move back to Toms River North for Friday's quarterfinal round and for Saturday's rounds.

Since the tournaments will now be contested on three consecutive days, there will be a one-pound weight allowance on Thursday and an additional one-pound allowance on Friday. No additional allowance will be granted for Saturday.

For example, the 106-pound weight class - which is now really 108 when factoring in the two-pound growth allowance that went into effect on Jan. 1 - will be 109 on Thursday and 110 on Friday and Saturday.

The first day of the Region 1 through 8 tournaments features the pre-quarterfinal round with wrestlers who finished second and third in their respective district tournaments. The winners advance to the quarterfinals and the losers are eliminated from the tournament, ending their season.
