SHORE SPORTS NETWORK LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK, 4/8/15
Chris Smith, Sr., Midfield, Southern
Plain and simple, Smith turned in a ridiculous week as the Rams went 3-0 and won arguably the biggest game in program history.
In a 14-1 victory over Holmdel, Smith scored three goals and won 13 of 14 face-offs. Then in the Rams' 16-14 victory over Rumson, Smith was 19-for-21 on draws with 21 ground balls and three goals and two assists, including the eventual game-winning goal off a ground ball with 1:43 left in the game. The win was Southern's first over Rumson after falling to the Bulldogs in each of the last four seasons, including the last two Shore Conference Tournament championship games. He followed that up by going a perfect 14-for-14 on face-offs in a 16-2 win over Toms River East while scoring four goals and adding three assists.
For the season Smith has 17 goals and six assists in five games, scoring at least three goals in each of the Rams' five victories. He has also gone 72-for-89 on draws, a winning percentage of 80 percent, in his first year taking face-offs.
