Every week this fall, Jersey Mike’s and Shore Sports Network will be teaming up to select the Shore Conference Football Team of the Week based on its performance over the past weekend.

The Jersey Mike’s Team of the Week for Week 3 is Southern Regional, which upended Long Branch, 7-0, for a huge Colonial Division victory. Shore Sports Network stopped by practice on Wednesday to present the Rams and head coach Chuck Donohue Sr. with a special game ball and a $500 Jersey Mike's gift card.

A 4-yard touchdown run by sophomore fullback Dee Halm in the second quarter followed by Keegan Foote's extra point was all the offense the Rams would need to pull the upset against a Long Branch team that entered ranked No. 7 in the SSN Top 10. And the reason Southern knocked off the Green Wave and improved to 2-1 was because of its defense. Junior defensive linemen Armando Sanchez and sophomore linebacker Cole Cramer each had two sacks and two tackles for loss to help hold Long Branch to just 52 yards rushing on 22 carries (2.4 ypc).

Sanchez also had a fumble recovery, which was one of four turnovers forced by Southern. Andy Falletta, Xander Murray, and Dom Crisalli intercepted passes and it was Crisalli's pick in the end zone with under a minute left in the game that clinched the victory.

Offensively, senior running back Kyle Caufield led the way with 62 yards rushing on 11 carries.

The victory over Long Branch showcased the Rams' resiliency one week after a 42-0 loss to No. 2 Toms River North. They have another challenging game this weekend when they travel into Monmouth County to square off with Middletown North (2-1) on Friday night. It's a swing game for both teams with the winner putting itself in line for a playoff spot midway through the regular season.
