Opening Round

Central Jersey Group III

(2) Nottingham 74, (15) Red Bank 65

Senior Nick Valentino scored a game-high 27 points and the Bucs (8-15) cut a 19-point halftime deficit to three early in the fourth quarter, but the Northstars (18-8) fought off Red Bank to advance to Wednesday's sectional quarterfinals.

Junior Braydon Kirkpatrick pitched in 16 points and senior Collin Teter hit three three-pointers to finish with nine points for Red Bank.

Dom Raymond led Nottingham with 26 points and 10 rebounds.

(1) Ewing 88, (16) Freehold Boro 56

Darnelle Forrest scored 25 points and Kenny Rankin poured in 23 to lead the Blue Devils (21-4) over the Colonials (8-16).

Junior Christian DiGiso paced Freehold Boro with 14 points, with junior Sam Cranwell adding 11 and senior Mike Bisaha chipping in 10 in the loss.

(5) Colts Neck 46, (12) Lawrence 43

Sophomore Vova Trotsko scored a game-high 16 points and the Cougars (17-8) clamped down for a win over the Cardinals (10-17) to advance to Wednesday's sectional final round at No. 4 Brick Memorial.

Senior Will Surdez added 13 points and senior Tyler Spencer chipped in eight for Colts Neck.

(7) Matawan 58, (10) Carteret 46

Sophomore Chauncey Brown scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his first career double-double and the Huskies (14-13) held off the Ramblers (12-15) to advance to the sectional quarterfinals Wednesday at No. 2 Nottingham.

Brown keyed an 11-0 run for Matawan to close the first quarter with nine points and the Huskies took a 16-12 lead that they would not relinquish the rest of the way.

Sophomore Jayden Elijah also notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds for Matawan, while senior teammate Colin Haluska added 10 points and six rebounds to go with a key charge he took late in the last three minutes of the fourth quarter that wiped out a potential basket by Andre Diaz that would have pulled Carteret to within five points. Instead, Diaz committed his fifth foul less than a minute later and the Ramblers never recovered.

Sophomore Amir Martinez contributed eight points and four assists for Matawan, while Asi Powell (18 points) and Diaz (17) combined for 35 of Carteret's 46 points.

(8) Ocean 48, (9) Hopewell Valley 46

Sophomore Ron Richardson scored 20 points to go with seven rebounds and the Spartans (16-9) rallied from a 14-point second-quarter deficit to pull out a first-round win over the Bulldogs (12-14).

Sophomore Zayier Dean added 15 points and eight rebounds for Ocean, which finished the first half on an 8-2 run to pull within eight heading into the third quarter and outscored Hopewell Valley, 17-9, in the fourth quarter to capture the win. The Spartans took their first second-half lead on a pair of free throws by Dean with 2:05 left to make it 41-40 and never gave it back.

Junior Keith Allen also chipped in eight points and eight rebounds for Ocean, which will travel to No. 1 Ewing Wednesday for the sectional quarterfinals.

(4) Brick Memorial 57, (13) Burlington Twp. 50

Senior Josh Michigan exploded for 30 points and 14 rebounds to help carry the Mustangs (16-10) past the Falcons (10-16) and into the sectional quarterfinals Wednesday at home against No. 5 Colts Neck.

Michigan scored 16 of Brick Memorial's 25 points in the first half and kept at it with nine more points in the third quarter.

Senior Dorian Alston added 13 points and classmate Brian Starrett scored 11, as the Brick Memorial senior trio combined for all by three of the team's points -- including 14 of the team's 15 in the fourth quarter to close out the game.

Central Jersey Group I

(2) Shore 61, (15) Dunellen 21

Senior Donovan Hughes led a well-rounded scoring effort with 13 points and the Blue Devils (19-5) coasted by the Destroyers (5-19) and into the sectional Wednesday's quarterfinal round.

Junior Alex George added 10 points and junior Joe Santi chipped in nine for Shore, which built up a 39-14 lead by halftime.

(9) South Hunterdon 66, (8) Keansburg 56

Senior Mike Alonso scored a game-high 18 points, but the Titans (8-12) could not overcome a 20-7 second quarter by the Eagles (12-12) that propelled South Hunterdon into Wednesday's quarterfinal round.

Senior Jordan Bey added 15 points and classmate Jaheim Hill scored 14 for Keansburg, which led, 18-15, after the first quarter before South Hunterdon's second quarter tear catapulted the visitors to a 35-25 halftime lead.

Brayden Hinman and Aaron Zalescik each scored 16 points to lead South Hunterdon.

(3) Point Beach 90, (14) Somerset Tech 63

Senior Kyle Kolans led four Point Beach players in double-figure scoring with 23 points and the Garnet Gulls (15-9) coasted to a round-one win over the Jaguars (12-12), securing themselves a spot in Wednesday sectional quarterfinal round.

Junior John Coakley also poured in 20 points, while freshman Jacob Edgecomb netted 17 and senior Stephen Seaman contributed 14 for Point Beach. Senior Kevin Burns, meanwhile, tied it all together with 11 assists for the Garnet Gulls.

(7) Florence 66, (10) Henry Hudson 44

Senior Jax Ross scored 14 points and sophomore Jack Fitzpatrick added 12, but the Admirals (12-13) could not recover from falling into a 20-2 hole through the end of the first quarter in a loss to the Flashes (13-12).

Senior Luke Jaccodine added nine points for Henry Hudson, while Darius Bland led Florence with 20. The Flashes advance to the sectional quarterfinals Wednesday, when they will travel to face No. 2 Shore.

South Jersey Group III

(4) Moorestown 65, (13) Lacey 31

Seniors Ryan Fitzgerald and Troy Buxton each scored six points and the Lions (12-14) remained within striking distance at halftime, but a 22-7 third-quarter run by the Quakers (20-7) blew the game open and sent Moorestown to the sectional quarterfinals for a home matchup with No. 5 Hammonton.

(3) Westampton Tech 68, (14) Barnegat 53

Sophomore Cole Toddings scored 12 points and both junior Jamari Smith and sophomore Mason Krey added 11 apiece, but the balanced scoring effort was not enough for the Bengals (10-14) to keep up with the Panthers (20-6), who will host No. 11 Absegami in Wednesday's sectional quarterfinals.
