No. 8 Jackson Memorial 45, Southern 14

Senior quarterback Joe DeMaio ran for an 11-yard touchdown and threw a 73-yard touchdown to Aaron Curet, junior running back Vinny Lee ran for two touchdowns and sophomore Mike Gawlik added a scoring run as the Jaguars (3-0, 2-0) dropped the Rams (1-2, 1-2). Jared Calhoun added a 25-yard field goal.

 

Class B Central

Mater Dei Prep 30, Asbury Park 20

Senior quarterback Christian Palmer scored on touchdown runs of 44 and 60 yards and threw a 63-yard touchdown to sophomore Eddie Lewis and a 3-yard score to senior Tysaun White as the Seraphs (2-1, 2-0) stopped the Blue Bishops (0-3, 0-2) for the first time since 2006. Palmer finished with 144 yards rushing and 104 passing

Sal Swain threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Devin Moore and an 18-yard touchdown pass to Bam Stephens for Asbury Park. Stephens also had a 25-yard rushing touchdown.


Class B South

Barnegat 21, Jackson Liberty 7

Senior quarterback Cinjun Erskine ran for a pair of touchdowns and threw for another score to help the Bengals (2-1, 2-1) bounce back following a loss to down the Lions (1-2, 1-1). Erskine scored on a short keeper in the first quarter and added a 73-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to put the game away. He also tossed a 55-yard touchdown pass to Paul Wickwire in the second quarter.

Jackson Liberty senior quarterback Ryan Van Wickle scored on a 40-yard run on the first play of the second quarter for the Lions' only score.

Lakewood 32, Manchester 15

Junior running back Amir Tyler ran for 101 yards and two touchdowns on just six carries, and senior quarterback Chapelle Cook accounted for 167 total yards and two touchdowns to lead the Piners (3-0, 3-0) past the Hawks (0-3, 0-3).

Tyler found the end zone with a 10-yard run early in the second quarter, and later ripped off a 56-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to put Lakewood up 26-7. Cook scored on a 12-yard run in the first quarter and then threw a 72-yard touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver Adiam Palmer on the last play of the third quarter. Senior Eric Segui added a touchdown run and also kicked a pair of extra points.

Senior defensive end Datrell Reed was a force with seven tackles for a loss and a sack, while Tyler and junior Jaqel Hunter had interceptions.

Junior Shavar Reynolds ran for a six-yard touchdown on the final play of the first half for Manchester, and backup quarterback Jerry Blackburn threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to junior tight end Israel Almestica on the final play of the game. The Hawks also had a safety in the third quarter.

 

Nonconference

No. 4 Manalapan 64, Sayreville 28

Senior tailback Imamu Mayfield ran for a career-high 247 yards and five touchdowns to lead a record-setting offensive performance by the Braves (3-0) in a meeting between two of the state's top Group V programs. Mayfield had scoring runs of 11, 34, 38, 48 and 12 to lead a rushing attack that dominated the Bombers to the tune of 348 yards.

Senior quarterback Dan Anerella threw for 130 yards and two touchdown - a 21-yarder to Kyle Mullen and a 57-harder to Brian Conforth. Dan Debner added a 23-yard touchdown run and junior Marcus Salinas broke a 74-yard touchdown run late in the game.

The Braves held Penn State recruit Myles Hartsfield to 17 yards rushing on 12 carries, but he burned them for 147 yards receiving and 3 touchdowns on 5 receptions. Sophomore quarterback Jayson Demild threw for 191 yards and four touchdowns. Hartsfield also blocked three kicks in the game, two extra points and one field goal.

Manalapan forced three turnovers on interceptions by sophomore Jonathan Pimentel and senior Tyson Plummer (two).
