Manalapan 6, Freehold Boro 1

Senior James Besser scored two goals and the Braves (1-5, 1-3) broke out for their first win of the season with a rout of the Colonials (5-3, 2-2).

Sophomore James Bruno and junior Dylan Fread each added a goal for Manalapan. Junior Mike Romero-Vargas scored the lone Freehold Boro goal.

No. 7 Freehold Twp. 1, No. 2 Marlboro 0

Junior Adam Havens broke a scoreless tie in the 48th off a headball pass from junior Zach Orrico and the Patriots (5-4, 4-0) held on to hand the Mustangs (8-1, 4-1) their first loss and take over sole possession of first place in Class A North.

Marlboro had a chance to tie the game in the final 10 minutes but leading scorer Mike Steinberg's shot clanged off the crossbar.

 

Class A South

Brick Memorial 1, Central 0

Senior Joe Liberatore scored the game's lone goal in the 46th minute and the Mustangs (2-4, 1-3) topped the Golden Eagles (0-8, 0-4) for their second straight win.

No. 3 Jackson Memorial 2, Toms River East 1

Junior Drew Walenty scored off a pass from younger brother and sophomore Evan Walenty and senior Ed Jacoby scored the deciding goal as the Jaguars (9-1, 4-0) beat the Raiders (3-3-2, 1-3-1) to get back on track following their first loss of the season Monday vs. Colts Neck.

Toms River South 2, Toms River North 0

Senior Shane Kluxen scored in the first minute off a pass from senior Preston Geerinck and added a second goal in the 52nd to spark the Indians (3-3-1, 2-1-1) to a win over the rival Mariners (4-2-1, 2-1-1).

 

Class B Central

St. Rose 6, Henry Hudson 1

Mater Dei Prep 2, Keyport 0

Junior Liam Stewart scored off a feed from senior A.J. Bruney, sophomore Zach O'Neal added a goal off a cross from sophomore Jason Gruber and the Seraphs (2-3-1, 2-1-0) shut down the Red Raiders (2-5, 2-2).

Ranney 3, Asbury Park 1

Sophomore Thomas Boyan scored two goals and assisted one by classmate Jett Pacifico as the Panthers (3-4, 3-1) topped the Blue Bishops (4-5, 2-3) to continue their hunt for the B Central title.

 

Class B South

Lakewood 2, Jackson Liberty 0

Manchester 2, Lacey 1

Sophomore Logan Duffy scored a goal and assisted the game-winner by junior Trevor Juralewicz and the Hawks (6-1, 4-0) edged the Lions (3-4-1, 1-3-0) to take over sole possession of first place in the Class B South race.

Point Boro 1, Donovan Catholic 0

Freshman Brett Lechinski scored the lone goal of the game and the Panthers (2-7-1, 2-2-0) held on to shut out the Griffins (2-5, 1-3).

Barnegat 1, Pinelands 1

Junior Nate Szwed scored in the third minute off a pass from senior Jack Doyle but Barnegat responded with a penalty kick by senior Grady Edwards in the 27th as the Wildcats (4-1-1, 3-0-1) and Bengals (6-0-1, 3-0-1) played to a draw in a key B South match.

Barnegat senior defender Sean Toner was involved in two near scoring plays in the second half. He made a sliding save to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line in the 51st minute and in the final minute of regulation, he headed a ball from point-blank range on frame, but Pinelands goalkeeper Gavin Harris covered the near post and made the save.
