Freehold Boro 2, Neptune 0

Abel Herrera and Isaac Ball scored within two minutes of one another in the first half and the Colonials (2-2, 2-1) held on to beat the Scarlet Fliers (1-2, 0-2). Herrera scored on a direct kick in the 15th minute and Ball scored on a pass from Jake Brower in the 17th.

Brendan Duffy saved eight shots to secure his second shutout of the season.

No. 7 Manalapan 1, Howell 1

Tom Gresco scored the first goal of the game to give Manalapan the lead in the 24th minute before Brandon Downey answered for Howell in the 38th to account for all of the scoring in a draw between the No. 7 Braves (0-0-2, 0-0-2) and the Rebels (0-2-1, 0-2-1).

No. 5 CBA 2, Marlboro 0

Junior Jack Gill scored a goal in each half and senior goalkeeper Shane Keenan picked up his third shutout in four games as the Colts (4-0, 3-0)  blanked the Mustangs (0-2-1, 0-1-1) to win their fourth straight to open the season. Senior John Askin assisted Gill's first goal and junior Joe Lozowski set up the second.

No. 3 Freehold Twp. 2, Colts Neck 1

Senior Kevin Finn drilled a 45-yard strike in the 11th minute and senior Josh Cagan added a header off a Matt Finocchiaro corner kick in the 29th as the Patriots (2-1, 2-0) jumped on top of the Cougars (1-2, 1-2) and held on for the A North win.

Danny Gaines cut the Colts Neck deficit in half with a goal in the 66th.

 

Class A Central

No. 1 Holdmel 5, Matawan 0

Junior Anthony Arena scored two more goals - both in the first half - and the Hornets (4-0, 3-0) coasted to their fourth straight lopsided win to open the season and second in eight days over the Huskies (1-2, 1-2).

After logging hat tricks in each of Holmdel's last two games, Arena has scored eight goals in the team's last three. During the 4-0 start, Holmdel has outscored its opponents 20-2.

Seniors Justin McStay and Matt Leon each added a goal and an assist, while junior Eric Hinds also scored a goal on one of two assists in the game for senior Cyrus Darvish.

Shore 4, Raritan 3

Sophomore Patrick O'Dwyer recorded his first career hat trick and the Blue Devils (2-2, 1-1) outlasted the Rockets (0-1-1, 0-1-1) in a high-scoring showdown in A Central. Junior Taylor Sousa scored the other goal for Shore.

Jared Mills, Anthony Bavaro and Anthony Sparacino each scored a goal for Raritan while Tommy Savin added two assists in the loss.

Rumson-Fair Haven 2, St. John Vianney 0

Owen Greengrove and Jeremy Nives each scored a goal and the Bulldogs (2-0, 1-0) blanked the Lancers (0-1-1, 0-1-1) in their Class A Central opener.

 

Class B North

No. 6 Long Branch 8, Red Bank Catholic 1

Alex Tabisz and Staviny DaSilva each scored two goals and the Green Wave (2-1, 1-1) cruised to a win over the Caseys (0-2, 0-2). Juan Carlos Merino, Oscar Marmol, Daniel Santos and Fernando Espinosa each scored one goal and senior Venancio Fernandes chipped in two assists.

Diego Volpe scored the lone goal for Red Bank Catholic.

Middletown North 4, Wall 2

Liam McGregor scored two goals and assisted goals by John Alfano and Pat Gallagher to lead the Lions (3-0, 2-0) past the Crimson Knights (2-1, 1-1) and to their third straight win to open the season. McGregor scored on a penalty kick to break a 2-2 tie in the 70th minute and buried a direct kick to cap the scoring in the final minute.

Gallagher tied the game by scoring on a cross from McGregor in the 55th, while Alfano opened the scoring in the 10th.

Tagg Ancrum converted a penalty kick in the 33rd minute to pull Wall even at 1-1 and John Vaccaro scored on a pass from Kevin Kile to give the Crimson Knights the lead in the 42nd minute.

No. 4 Ocean 4, Monmouth 2

Junior Santieno Harding scored two goals in the final 21 minutes to break a 2-2 tie, cap a hat trick, and deliver the Spartans (2-0, 2-0) a win over the Falcons (2-2, 0-2). It was Harding's second straight game with two goals or more to open the season - the first coming in a 2-1 overtime win over Long Branch on Thursday.

Junior Mark Mauro scored the other goal for Ocean, which bounced back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to take a 2-1 lead in the 56th minute.

Senior Joel Burgos scored both Monmouth goals, the first of which gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute and the second of which tied the game at 2-2 in the 58th. The two goals increased Burgos's Shore-Conference-leading goal total to 11.

Middletown South 3, Manasquan 1

Mike Zito, Justin Gould and Connell MacLellan each scored a goal and the Eagles (2-1, 1-1) beat the Warriors (1-1, 1-1) to pick up their first B North win of the season.

Chris Pierro scored the lone Manasquan goal on a 25-yard strike on an assist from Sam Del Guercio.
