Zach Hetzel and Brendan Barcas scored a goal apiece and the Crimson Knights beat the Pioneers to advance to the sectional final Friday against top-seeded Allentown. Wall will be playing in its first sectional final since 2008 and seeking its first championship since 2005.
Hetzel broke a scoreless tie with a shot from the right angle to the far back post in the 53rd minute. Barcas tacked on a goal on a header off a corner kick by older brother, Chris.
Central Jersey Group II
(4) Delran 0, (1) Holmdel 0 (Delran advances on penalty kicks, 3-2)
Tyler Marchiano made five saves during the 100 minutes of play and two during the penalty kick shootout, but three conversions were enough for the Bears to beat the two-time defending sectional champions. Delran will play at No. 2 Rumson-Fair Haven Friday in the sectional final.
(2) Rumson-Fair Haven 3, (3) Cinnaminson 2
Senior Pete Martin scored two goals and senior Matt Dell scored the other for the Bulldogs, who edged Cinnaminson to advance to the sectional finals Friday against No. 4 Delran.
Both of Martin's goals were 25-yard rips that slipped underneath the crossbar, the first of which broke a 1-1 tie in the 53rd minute and the second of which gave Rumson a much-needed insurance goal.
